I fitted a Dobi kit to my G60, 2" lift. Shocks were way to short and matched stock limiting flex a lot. I bought the kit from Glen Dobinson himself and when I called him to try and get the right length shock he couldn't find any longer ones to suit my truck. So I ended up selling them to a guy with stock suspension and I fitted Rancho 5000's in the correct length. Flex increased...
I liked Dobi springs but hated the shocks.

with the patrol sitting level in my driveway, i removed the shocks rear dobinson shocks, and checked how much the shock would go till it topped out, their was only 2" of tavel downwards,
these shocks would be fine for standard height!!

Your coils are going to fall out if you fit the 700mm 3" lift shocks to your 2" lift. Having said that, if you want them you can have them.

I too have the same shocks on a 2 inch kings lift, because you have HD springs (whatever that is.......???Lb) you may actually have a ride height closer to 3 inches that 2. This can then give the illusion the shocks are not long enough.
If possible jack up the chassis or wheel it so that you hang a tyre, then if safe reach under and see if the spring can be moved by hand or if it is still compressed.
HD springs will often support the vehicle closer to the springs free height compared to the softer lifts around.
I am interested to see what you find out, if they are too short it's a shame because for the price they do a good job everywhere else.
Dont forget to also check if they compress enough to touch bumpstops also, I am not sure why mine don't could be the springs are binding, never the less, not a real important problem to me yet, still getting the rest of the package where I want it.
cheers fnq

Good advice fnqcairns,
Don't forget your coils will settle a little once they have been given a workout. Do you have much weight in the back at them moment. Full tank of fuel.
Flex it up and unbolt one of your shocks and see how much further you can flex it before the coil becomes loose. Make sure you allow for your spring to settle a bit.

I'm running shocks supposedly for a 4" lift kit at the rear with 2" lift (EFS mind you) and no problems.4WD Stuff wrote:Matt

However, it WILL depend on which spring rates you have. If you have a 2" heavy duty kit, it probably will have shorter free length than a 2" softer coil.
Best bet is - unbolt the rear shocks and jack lift one rear corner until the rear spring is almost unseated, then measure from top of pin to where the bottom bolt will go.
You'll need the swaybar disconnected to make it flex that much - but if you run the swaybar normally and intend to keep it, then dont bother.
Then take them back and say "these things are too short I want some flex - gimme X mm long".
Best way to get suspension - let the guy you're buying from know what you want up front, or they will sell you HD flexless suspension (for safety reasons, higher volume = better margin, and also less likely to sag).
When I saw the specified lengths when buying the shocks, I spoke to the suspension dude and let him know I was concerned it wouldnt flex enough. He advised me to test them, and that he was happy to take them back and give me longer ones if they didnt make me happy.
As soon as I fitted the springs and flexed it up on the jack I could see they were chopping about 3" of travel out. I'm sure with the rear swaybar on it would have been the swaybar restricting it instead.... but hey, we know what swaybars are good for
No need to even take it out of the garage. And he did swap them, no questions asked. Gotta love service like that.
That was from 4wd Trekmaster in Pickering Street Everton Park. They do Dobinson, EFS (Carrolls) and Lovells stuff.
ok i've disconected sway bar and shock crossed up 4b.
can easily fit 700mm shocks befor shocks come loose.
but the amount i have to cross it up to need the bigger shocks is alot!
at the moment the shocks top out while driving on the hyway over largish
bums such as the joins in a bridge.
unsure wether it would still do it after i have the stuffed shock/s replaced.
shane up to you wich shocks you send me, i'm no expert in this matter i think the longer stroke shocks would be better, but the ones i have now
are suposed to be the correct length,
and i dont want you to have any hassles with dobinsons trying to sort this out.
the
the shocks on the front are great,
just having probs with the rear unsure if its just the one shock or two

Dam I am surprised that the 700mm shocks will go. So before we go doing anything, are you certain about getting the longer shocks and coils not falling out.
So if you confirm, I will send you the longer 700mm extended length shocks and I will take back both the shocks you have. I will cop the price of the shocks if you chip in some of the freight. It is really worth being completly happy with your setup.
p.s. Good to hear the front is all good.

Sounds like your rear setup will end up about the same as mine, except using the dobinsons bits instead of the EFS bits.
If so you should be pretty happy with the end result.
Betcha they rub on the inside of the wheelwell too unless you stick with the stock 31"s.
Good to see the support from Shane. Excellent stuff...
