here, i just went and took some pics for you. breathers are circled.
FRONT

REAR

also, dont forget that you're gear box and transfer have breather hoses too, and they aren't too long or high either. it mayt pay to extend these when you do the diff breathers, IF you are extending the breathers.

back one is sort of extended. i just un did the 90 degree angle from the cross member and left it at that. i have a lot of flex in the back, so that is why.monkeyplex wrote:Thanks man. So yours are extended? Where did you run them to?
it runs up into the rear left inner guard, up from under the tail light.
the front runs up through the enginebay and finishes up near the firewall behind the battery.
the transfer and the gearbox connect to one line through a T piece, and then up to where the front ends. most people put $2 fuel filters from supercheap on the ends. i didnt.
if you have a stock vitara, chances are you already have diff breathers! cool. the back one should be good enough, as it is/should be higher than the tail lights. the front diff and the Tcase and Gbox need to be extended if you are doing deep water. (like water inside styles)

Thanks for that. I had a chance to get out and have a look today They seem to be pretty good standard diff breathers but i might extend the rear one a bit, back up into the engine bay. Think i might take your advice and extend the transfer and gearbox lines as i am frequently in deep mud and water.

you just need a 5" suspension lift and you wont need to extend the transfer and gearbox breathers. lol.monkeyplex wrote:Thanks for that. deep water and mud, how deep is the water you go through? does it come inside the cab?
you might want to have a look at your sills, if you havent already. take the plastic side bits off if you havent already. they just love to make rust. then, when you take them off, you might also want to drill some drain holes into the bottom of your sills to let the water drain out quicker, as opposed to it soaking and draining slowly, or even staying in there.

Yeah my suspension is stock so that is my main problem! I follow lifted landcruisers and patrols, that usually means at least up to the sills but i never get stuck (touch wood).
So you reckon I should just get rid of the plastic covers over the sills all together, or take them off, drill the drain holes and then put them back on?

just take them off and ditch them, and then take off the metal mounting brackets that hold the plastic on. the thing is, water, mud and samd get behind it all, and sit and soak, and eventually, rust comes along. its just a bad design, as they plastic stuff tend to catch a lot of crud, plus, if your vit isnt lifted yet, chances of you scraping them off is more likely.monkeyplex wrote:Yeah my suspension is stock so that is my main problem! or if you dont want to ditch them, take them off carefully, store away in a nice cool dry place, and then when you want to sell your vit, put them back on to hide any rock rashes in your sills.

Cool. Ok i might do that. The lift however will be a while away. I just replaced my engine (the old one seized) so I have to try and modify her on the budget side for now.
Thanks for the help dude!

if you have elec windows, you prolly have thge doors with the fully moulded coverings. whenyou get this off, you will have to unscrew the window glass, and take it out, and then you can unscrew the window winder mechanism. it should be a slide, a cable, and an electric motor with a plug.monkeyplex wrote:Sorry i forgot to ask, what do you know about the electric windows? I want to get at them and fix up my drivers side. I think its clogged full of all sorts of crap.
the pulleys might be worn. or it could just be dirt and stuff, and a little crc or lube might be the go.
whays wrong with the window? is it slow, or not moving, or is it making noises? it could also be the wondow guides, the bit in the door where the glass slides up and down in.

The window slows down near the top, and there are some big streaks on the outside of the window. Also i sometimes have to tilt the window back, it seems to be rocking in the slides or something. My main prob is i have no freakin' idea how to get the moulded cover off and have a look!
