Bets weight oil for ARB

Guys doin a search but could get anythin to load up on crappy dialup.

Can any1 tell me what the best oil to use for a ARB air locker is in the rear of a prado??

It had a LSD in it the arb dudes rekn 90sae normal would it be better to use 85/140 lsd oil instead or is this too thick for the air locker ??

Had heaps of exp with detroits but not air lockers thanke heaps

Just use epx 85/140 if your diff origionally used lsx 85/140. You wont need the lsd additives anymore.

Because 9 times out of 10 they are just sales men that only know what they have read out of there own catalogs. Plus he lives in WA and if we listened to ARB sales men we would all be driving around on the beach with 2" lifts and 31 BFG allterrains.

I thought it said in the ARB book to use 85/140..

anyway my diff man told me to run 85/140

Yer ARB WA are pretty :?

Gunna stick with the 85/140 we use in the detrotis got LSD oil so just gunna use it .

But what WA 4wd shop isnt either -

G'day all,
I just had a air locker put in my 62 it had a LSD in it as well, should i pull the oil out that they put in and replace it with 85/140 in case they didnt?

I'd bet the if you ran two identical vehicles over identical terrain, one with 85/140 and one with 80/90 or even 75/90 there would be no difference in wear or locker operation, that is until the locker starts to develop leaks and the gear oil seaps inside the locker and you get that lovely sweet gear oil smell coming from your air solenoids. Then the THICKER 85/140 doesn't seap in as bad.... Oh maybe that's why they say to run 85/140 :idea:

The majority of japanese manufactures reccomend 85/140 in either EPX or LSX for their diffs. I would be using that.

Its the ring and pinion you want to protect the most, that is where the most load is and its also has the most critical clearance.

i disagree if the vehicles were driven hard on rough terrain requiring higher loads there would eventually be a wear difference , the oil thickness isn't to stop leaking , remember oils aint oils , the thicker the oil the better it will be for higher more extreme loads
85/140 is better for higher loads
if its worth doing do it intensly , better still do it with MADPASSION

set your limits way beyond your abilities
