I think that's probably due to there not being EFI RB30 Patrols?

I've never seen a factory EFI one.

RB30 Patrols are all carby's unless modified afterwards, I am in the process of buying one shortly to turbo and inject, but to answer your question about the economy expect to use about 16-20 litres per hundred kays, the engines are massively underpowered in the Patrols and as a consequence you have to rev them abit harder to keep them on the boil.

One strange thing I have noticed is during my trawls through car yards and the subsequent meetings with salesmen they all spit out the same line for the RB30 Patrols " Most economical Patrol " and " 3 litre is really good on the fuel ", this is bull, my brother runs a 3L and my GU TD42 pisses all over his in the economy stakes, just amazes me as to what the salesman say to get a sale and try pull the wool over some peoples eyes

Cheers

I have a 91 RB30...slightly modified with extractors and restrictor in intake removed...rejetted...2.25 inch exhaust ..and a snorkel. I quite often get 13.55 litres per 100 ks on a run to Parkes from here...with air on and cruzin at 95-105 kn hour. But this goes up to about 15-17 when towin camper...so yeah they ere pretty good on fuel mostly ....depends how ye drive em really.

I've got an rb 30 in my patrol. The best I have ever had is 15 litres to 100 km the worst closer to 20 litres to 100kms. Personally I would go a 4.2 litre engine.
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

The only real reason to get a RB30 patrol it to turbo it since its a Skyline/VL Commadore motor which take turbos real easy

the 4.2L Petrol does around 23L/100K's though on petrol. they are very very thrursty

Its almost like the saying if you need to know the fuel consumption you can't afford it. You have to remember these are a big heavy vehicle that will use a shit load of fuel. If you take it off road expect to double or triple fuel consumption. If you want economy buy a Corolla. If anything get a TB42 on gas.

turbo GQ

Post by Brunsy »

once i turboed mine i got as good as 13L/100. Only reason i bought that model was so i could turbo it otherwise they are fairly painfull for long trips. Unless you know someone who has done the conversion youll be looking at 4k minimum by the time you sort out an intercooler, exaust and clutch that will cope. Im kinda glad i moved on to slow but cheap to run shorty auto 4.2 dual fuel.

is the RB30 engine a petrol engine? If so i wouldn't be too impressed with the figures quoted for fuel consumptin. Towing at 70mph [120kph in oz figures] i used 14.5l per 100km that's on the motorway. So the 3ltr isn't any more fuel efficient reading this thread than my efi 4.2 GQ Auto. I remember when i had a RR Classic with 3.5V8 in it - those who drove the 4lt + engines all reported better driving and fuel overall fuel economy over the 3.5lt due to the extra torque of the engine meaning that you didn't have to drive the engine as hard for any given speed - something i now believe to be the truth given the vehicles i've owned since then.

just my 2p worth.

Hey,

I own aftermarket turbo kit with fuel injection on 3l GQ, I find fuel consumption isn't that bad considering I plant my foot down most of time, i achieved 14-15l per 100 around town it isn't bad considering it weighs 2 tons if you want econony on GQ, take the lead off your foot and you'll be right.

I don't mind if it drinks as i enjoy the power that carbuettor verison of 3l lacks. I prefer extra power over economy myself. All this extra power of turbo will come in handy many times.

When I drive my parents Corolla, I use 10-11l per 100 km (2004 build factory figures 8.6l per 100km), all because i revved the motor every time I drive.

Well, it's my 5 cents.

Cheers

Grant

Yami1234, I'm selling my Patrol purely because i want faster car, so Patrol isn't a good option in terms of driving pleasure (Patrol is 4x4 not sports car).
Should I get another 4wd?
