GU Speedo & Trip Meter
GU Speedo & Trip Meter
Hey, I have been using this sight as a guest for ages now & found it very interesting & helpful. So I just joined & have a question. Does any one know if you can disconnect your speedo to stop the trip meter from ticking over, without causing any harm or warning lights on the dash to appear. I know with the 79series cruisers you take out the windscreen wiper fuse & that stops the speedo & trip meter from working. But have no idea what to do or even if its possible with the Guiii 3Ltr. Cheers...........

i don't know with the GU but i know with other makes the speedo is tied into the ECU. if it dosn't work the motor won't run. turning off the dash proberly won't work as a lot of vechile these days still record the miles in the ECU and the dash just displays what the ECU tells it to.

I have a GU Patrol 4.5 Petrol Auto, but the following shouldn't matter whether auto or manual as the speed sensor is on the transfercase.
You can simply unplug the vehicle speed sensor from the rear of the transfercase. It's the round steel unit near the handbrake and there is a grey electrical connector on top of the transfercase.
Just unplug it and away you go.
I have driven with it disconnected numerous times, as the Auto does some fuel cutting in Low range with reduction gears fitted.
