Not sure where to put this question. It relates to the T5 gearbox. These are found in lots of Fords etc, but are also used in Jeeps.
They look a bit different - there's a much longer extension at the back of the Ford version than there is in the jeeps. In fact, the Jeep version of the T5 is really short, only about 12" long from what I can tell (not counting bellhousing).
What I am trying to work out is whether you can take a Ford engine plus T5 gearbox, and put a Jeep transfer case on the back by removing the Ford-version's extension housing. Or, would you also need some parts from a Jeep T5 as well... or are they simply not realistically interchangeable?
It's pretty hard to tell by looking at photos, but from what I can see it seems like it should be possible with a bit of fiddling.
Or, since I don't really care that much about the transfer case's origins, is there another transfer case that could bolt onto a Ford sedan T5, minus the extension housing, to keep the drivetrain as short as possible (to allow more length on the rear driveshaft).
Anyone got some hands-on info?
Jason
