73 SERIES MWB REAR PROPORTIONING VALVE

Post by Evil 73 »

I want to remove the rear brake proportioning valve from my cruiser and replace it for a junction block, does anyone see a potential problem with this? I am aware it works by proportioning the brake byas from front to rear by the amount of weight that is put in the back, only thing is the rear panels have been removed completely and is now sporting tube guards and the bare essentials are bolted to the chassi with custom brackets, this is still lighter than the crappy sheet metal i cut off.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Benny

Stop being a tight wad, buy an adjustble one.

I've spent enough money in the last few days buying parts from you that you could buy a shop full of adjustable proportioning valves :finger:

I had one in my middy that sh@t itself. They are pretty expensive and cause more problems than they are worth. I by-passed it with an L shaped J box I robbed from the front of another cruiser where the line joins the chassis. You'll have to make some plugs for the fluid return lines as well. All the best

Removing the OEM bias valve may technically be an illegal mod [unless engineered] if it is a road registered vehicle.

had mine overhauled for $100, new from toyota was $260. This was for a 83 hilux.
Considered bypassing it with a hose, but was told brake bias would be out.
Good brakes was more important to me.

It did bring the rears in pretty hard but I was mainly using the car to tow a caravan so it was good. When I first bypassed it I tested it on the grass and it did lock the rear. On road it pulled up great with or without towing.

As for Alby's comment on being illegal and requiring engineering? What technically doesn't?

Think you forgot to mention that you're putting 80 series diffs under the car as well.

Front and rear discs. If you're running the 80 series brakes maybe look at the 80 series booster, master and proportioning valve?
