timing mark on td42 block

Post by sw1 »

wheres the timing mark on the td42 block?
do i need to take stuff off to find it?

i would like to check the valve clearance so i need to find tdc so i can go thru them all in the right manner.

i was told by the nissan service depo that both zaust & inlet clearance is 14 thou. can anyone confirm this?

sw1,

When i installed my pump, there are timing marks on the drive gears for the pump that must line up. On the pump drive gear there is one triangle (from memory) that must fit in between two on the drive gear, this must also be when the timing marks are alined on the crank sharft pully ( these are on the top l/h side of the pully).

the exhaust and inlet are both the same gauge but I have forgotten the measurement sorry, but that sounds about right.

Hope this helps

The timing mark is a very thin line on the timing cover at around 11 oclock. This lines up with a line on the harmonic balancer.

Valve clearances are 14 thou hot. If you cant see the timing mark, get number 6 valves rocking, ie inlet opening, exhaust closing this is then number one compression at very close to tdc.
