hi i have a 05 RA dual cab, just wondering if anyone else has had any problems with bending tierods and breaking sttering racks. I have bent 2 arms and broken 1 rack already and just curious to know if others have had this problem and fixed it somehow. my rodeo has about 75mm lift in the front with OME shocks and 100mm lift in the rear with OME' and EFS springs as well. Plus i have twin ARB airlockers. Plus 265/75r16 BFG M/T's so it does get i bit of a hard time.
first tierod i bent was at city view out at beaudesert, this resulted a brken steering rack also. the second tierod was just the other day but i replaced it on the track straight after i did it. Plus i broke an inner CV joint at the same time. had to remove the CV on the side of the track too so it wouldnt cause anymore damage.
heres us fixing the tierod
any ideas would be appreciated.

From the factory they are not a very strong item, and with the extra stress added from the lift, tyres and lockers, its just gettin too much for them. Rodeo's weren't really designed for hard offroad work, more a tradesman workhorse. If you wanted to you could make up some bomb proof tie rods. What is breakin in the rack, internals of housing, or mounts.

the actual housing breaks in half where the alloy section joins the steel sleeve.the angle of the tie rods (about 45 degries) has alot to do with the bending when the suspension is on full drop.relocating the tie rod ends to the top of the steering arm would help reduce the angle but would probably change the steering geometry not to mention the engineering involved. At the moment i carry 2 spare tie rod assemblys but changing on the track tends to ruin your day

jbell mine is petrol auto which sort of compensates for the big tyres i dont know how well a manual would handle them though. when it was standard it performed quite well off road but with suspension and lockers its pretty much unstopable. my only real complaint being fuel consumption its woefull

Chippieleigh.winding up the bars will do it but you have to fit longer shocks and flip the upper ball joints to retain the correct travel and camber also the diff needs to be lowered about 30 mm to reduce the cv joint angles or broken inners result. a wheel alignment needs to be done after this is all is done.the next thing im still working on is moving the tie rod ends to the top of the steering arms to reduce the angle of the tie rods to stop them from bending under hard use. your 265/75 MTRS will still rub you will have to remove the mud flaps and trim some of the plastic liner of.mine still rub on full travel on the bottom of the flares and the rears rub on the cab and the guard liner on full travel ,but i have a shitload of travel in the rear .hope this helps if you need any more info pm me
