2.7 Hilux MORE POWER
ALright - here we go
so today the Lux was in for a power boost. Already running K&N replacement filter but needed more power to tow the dirtbike trailer (enclosed 4 bike @ approx 1500 kgs fully laden).
Off to exhaust place to see what they could do. They recommended a replacement of some pipe work that constricted the exhaust flow. Now all of you with the stock exhasut will know where it routes as a single pipe off the headers. I now have a dual pipe from the headers through to almost the rear muffler (internal CAT in the pipe works).
IT NOW HAULS with minimal accelerator pedal and seems a lot smoother but no idea yet of course about economy figures - I was getting 400-420 per tank. Can't wait to see how she tows - should be much better. BTW I run 31's also to really degrade the performance of the vehicle.
If anyone wants details - let me know - pics soon once I can get to do it in daylight.

Now, if you want real horsepower out of your 3RZ 2.7 litre then you need this.
This setup then gives you this.
The whole article can be read at http://are.com.au/Big%20HP/grunter.htm , a very interesting read.

Family hijacked my weekend so no pics yet.
Cost is around the 450 mark - I had mine done in Canberra - Powatone in fyshwick.
Let me update the description a bit from above.
Dual pipe from headers to wher ethe old cat was where it merges nicely into one with a high flow cat in the pipe. Then onto the joiner just before the muffler. They said that there was not much more gaiin from a replacement muffler - just a lot more noise.
My next thing to do will be getting more air in and probaly losing the two chambers that sit between the air filter box and the throttle body.

Another update ....
Still no pics - oops.
Towing the big trailer is great up the Clyde from Batemens Bay to Canberra - there are a lot of corners that used to be sluggish in 1st (yep that's right) and now go easily in 2nd. What a difference.
Running premium in this tank load and getting more power again - just "adjusted" the air intake - removed the connection inside the front guard to the restrictive air intake so still colder air from in the guard - but a shorter and less restrictive path. Will have to see how this goes over the next week or tank of fuel etc.
