Exhaust question

Hi All
Just found the exhaust manifold on my 92 Vit G16B cracked so fitted a set of extractors.
Question is: can the catylictic (spelling?) convertor be removed. I would like to fit a 2" system and was wondering wether to leave the convertor or not.
I realise it can't be removed legally but will it affect the engine if removed.

and you should!
u will get more power and more responce,
my exaust is just extractors, 2 1/4 to a lukey sports muffler and 2inch out, and it sounds sweet, reves heeps nice!
proberbly a bit big and a bit loud for what u want but yeah defently get rid of that cat!

Your car can be 'deflect' without a cat, can they?

I heard but not 100% sure about it, that it is a must to have cat in australia due to pollution reason... that's just off my head. do some homework before going ahead.

Just buy a 2" universal hi flow cat converter. Do it for our children :D

Really with out it you may gain like 0.5 hp. Not worth the hassle of dealing with the authorities or the struggles of your inner conscience.

Don't give the greenies any more reasons to hate 4X4's... We put enough crap into the air by driving cars as it is, the least we can do is try to reduce emissions. I'd like to still have cleanish air in 50 years...

Sound like a good idea, better flow, keeps me legal and better for the environment.
Where does one get one and how much are they. Would the local muffler shop carry them.

not cheap and believe it or not most hi flow cats dont flow any better than a normal cat! cost to performance ratio is ridiculous!
Go to an exhaust shop and ask, hi flo only give a difference on a big powerful engine.

another option is to get a size up cat. so put a 2.5 inch cat on a 2 inch exhaust for flow

i have a section where my cat should be. it has 2 flanges, and a 'dummy' cat, which is a bit of pipe. the flanges are made up so that i can fit a commodore cat in, and just take it out when i dont need inspections.

the bolt holes in the flanges are off set, so only commo cats will fit. nice and cheap.

Just a quick update.
Had a custom made 2" sports sytem fitted and left the original cat in place.
I cannot believe the difference, the engine (which is new by the way) is sooo much smoother, revs a lot easier, and a very noticeable increase in performance, well worth the $250, highly recommend it.
