Front drum to disc swap

Post by treebruiser »

Guys, just bought an SJ40 with Drums all round. Want to swap the front to disc for a start and we'll take it from there. Anyone able to tell me what model front diff I can bolt in to do this. I know where i can get a drover one with discs but still need to check ratios and widths. Thought I'd aske here see if anyone can give me a top of the head answer.

easyest option would be to find some disk 1 liter diffs.; I think they were disks on the fron from about 83. not sure though.

if you really want good brakes swap the diffs then fit LWB vitara vented brakes and calipers.

just make sure theyre 1lt Narrow Track (SJ40) disc brake diffs. the later NT diffs are different. Different axles, different centres. but you prolly already figured that out..

You can swap over the discs from all 1.3NT's to 1.0litres by using everything from the swivel hub out, it will bolt to the 1.0 litre housing.
Not sure about WT's tho.

Mines a 1.0 LWB it has discs up front which atre a mixture of 1.0 and 1.3 parts, so they must all be the same. I think?

both same on everything I have seen.
Mine has a 1'0 on left and a 1.3 on right, both same.

discs can be turned down on a lathe if you need them smaller, I have been told?
