anyone know any ways of pulling power out of your mq patrol sd33 non turbo without having to put a aftermarket turbo system on it just for interest

powering up an sd33 non turbo?

Diesels are just about the same for "hotting up " as what petrol engines are.
Head work:
porting and polishing
Extractors and free flowing zorst system
Larger throttle body & better flowing inlet manifold
Block:
balancing (blueprinting if ya have the $$$$ )
Better lift cam
A guy I know hotted up his Mitsubishi truck motor ( 4.2 lit 4cyl light truck motor ) and spent $2000 doing it ontop of the rebuild he was doing at the same time. Once done the engine was dyno'd and he had gained 75HP over the factory specs
He's since turboed it and it makes really awsome power now and the ecconomy side has improved yet again...... although he doesnt really care about the ecconomy side of things much, he does enjoy smoking up the duels in 2nd gear !

the catch is startand hotting up of petroels is normall to shift the torque up the rev range which makes more horsepower. unfortunatly deisels have a very limited rev range, you can't go any higher. tuning things for high rpm simply won't work. your really just trying to shove a bit more air in at the standard rpm range (and add fuel to match) which is not the easiest thing to do, which is why turbo's are so popular even with the vechile manafactures.
cam, is fairly limited with the small rpm range of a deisel, more of a case of fine tuning the lift and duration. cam timing is proberly more important.
then portingthe head/valves if you oversize it a bit to much it will loose power.

i've been out of the car scene for a long time. i don't ever recall anyone making cams for diesels. i suspect you would have to get one stock one reground.
i would start with ajustable cam sprocket. if i remember correctly your only looking at 1% or so improvement on most motors.
the trouble with atmo your looking at a lot of $$$ to eek out that last drop of performance.
