Rebuild LSD or get diff-lock
Rebuild LSD or get diff-lock
Whats best to do.My LSD isnt working even after changing oil.Got me in a bother a couple of times today.
Should i get a rear diff-lock or just rebuild/repair the LSD?

you can test how well your LSD is working.
jack up one rear wheel so that its just off the ground. You should be able to get the car to drive off with the right accel / left foot brake combo.
If its working real good, you should be able to put a house brick infront of the diagonally opposite front wheel to the wheel jacked off the ground, and it should still drive off the jack and over the brick.
i tried this on mine and it failed miserably.
I drained a bit of oil out of the rear diff and then I put 500ml of engine oil flush into the diff. Its been in there for about 5000km now so i should drop all the oil and re-fill with LSD oil.
before the flush went in, tight turns on the black top would cause no tyre skipping. Since the flush has been in there, the inside wheel skips over as i'm doing a U turn or even turning at a T junction or whatever.
I'd try this before re-biulding / re-placing the LSD. Mine worked much better just after a couple hundred ks with the flush in it, but now its even better.
cheers

BTW i did this with mine and it helped heaps , might do it again and leave it in a bit longer this time.

GU ZD30#2 , 4 inch T/D lift, 33inch MT/Rs, 35 inch buckshots, sliders, snorkel, dents and scratches. Now with front locker and rockhoppers.......GO THE NISSAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the pres of my 4wd club was told by a diff specialist to drain ALL the diff oil and fill it completely with engine oil flush and then drive it for 5000km, but he was never game to try this. So mine has come up a treat after only 5000km of just 500ml of engine oil flush.
think i used Castrol 85/140, can't remember, what ever is recommended on the castrol website.
cheers

go the diff lock i blew up LSD before i left for europe only 60k old and then the gears from the LSD went through my CWP and there went a 4.6 ratio.
So yeah definatley get a locker you will get more use out of a rear locker than front.
