Rocky built up what to do ?

Post by CWBYUP »

I'm in the process to building up a rocky and wanted some opions.
It going to be a rocky wagon, V6 conversion but i'm undecied as to what gearbox and transfer case i want to use.

I've got a 75 series 5sp and T/C but was thinking of going holden T5 and the 75 T/C. How strong are these ? is it worth puting it in or buying something differant ?

It will most likey end up with either 100series diffs or nissan GQ and am planning on running 35s. What does everyone think ? :?

a lot of the rock crawlers are using lt230, i was refering to the earlier mq divorced transfer, no adapter needed for then.

t700 on the V6 and you can put just about anything on the back if you got the money.. im tossing up between LT230 (used in the buggies, proven strength, etc.) or a hilux twin case setup.

before you go any further with the rocky... think how much you really love rockys or how much you want to be different. IT IS SO FRIGGEN DIFFICULT TO GET SHIT DONE. but on the same note just about everything lines up perfect from every other model of car.

im in the same process and have spent over 12G and it still aint goin nowhere.... just buy a patrol

Yeah buying a patrol would be easier but then i've got to look at what it will cost to make it as capable as the rocky would be and how much price differance is.

Its going to be mainly a weekend basher and i think i could make the rocky a better truck ( more capable ) it would cost more but i reakon the price should be able to be justified.

Have i forgoten something in this ?

body and diffs $2000
suspension $3000
v6 conversion $2000
cage $ 1500

on top of that you would need engineers certificate and rims.

does this sound right ?

mate depends on what state your in. im doing everything myself. and runnin a 5.0 V8 as the sig says, and after spending a whole day on front suspension alone.. it aint gonna be as easy as you would think it to be.

ROUGH PRICES

transfer and adaptors ($1000)

GQ diffs ($1000)

100/80 diffs (1000-3000)

suspension you could do yourself for less or about that price for someone else to rip you off (do it for you)

rocky bodies are always shit and always have rust, look everywhere u wouldnt think including the floor and window frame

seat mounts if you change the seats are an absolute PITA so think about that for engineers

keeping the diffs covered may be a slight problem too

little things come along with them that just isnt thought of until it comes time.

fuel system too, dont forget that, need the commodore tasnk with pump and sender unit etc. as it is the easiest, and it fits absolutely perfect between the chassis (woohoo)

other than that all is good and itll be tuff as.

the 3 and 4 link i'll do myself with some help from friends, have the old lower links from the mog rover that I've pressed straight again, make the top ones out of some pipe i found at work ;) 5/8 bolts and standard range rover bushes.

could find 80s diffs cheaper than 1000-3000, you could pick up a pair of GUs for 2500-3500

go V6, Th700 and twin hilux
