cutting brakes

Post by sierrajim »

Would it be possible to use a clutch master cylinder for cutting brakes?

Basically plumb the brake line that runs from the brake master cylinder into the resivour fitting for the clutch cylinder then out to the rear.

I've been thinking about the exact same thing. I can't see why it wouldn't work, but it occurred to me that you might have to put a check valve in on the brake master cylinder side to stop the line from the brake master cylinder being pressurised when you pull the cutting brakes on.

This may not be necessary though, it depends on how the master cylinder works. I was thinking about grabbing one and having a play with it.

its not to cut the brakes off its so they can use a hand lever to operate the rear brake only, either the left or the right side to help turn the vehicle tighter.

Try Haultech as they have a specially made item which can be used with a air booster to cut them but you could fit it with a handle id say

Yes it would work. Check out www.yuri4x4.com - he uses something similar in his cutting brake setups.

In my opinion, it's a PITA - just buy a kit from either Racer Imports or Yuri

Was pondering the PITA factor. I can buy these pretty cheap out of the US, or after talking with Tony the Haultech one sounds good. Only thing is i need to do three sets (my buggy, my hilux and mock's rodent)
