Post by klrevo »

ok guys,

i picked up a rd25 rear ARB locker off ebay, 12 months old hardly used

now what? pay the $300 to get the install and pay $150 for compressor, or use one of the compressors iv already got and buy the pressure switch? how hard are these to install???

anyone got some help? i want this thing in asap!

Get ARB to do the install and the wiring for the switches but use your own compressor. Mine cost me a little bit extra for the install because of the onboard air and the "custom" wiring. From memory the switch is only about $40 and engages the locker at about 80psi and cuts out at about 110psi.

After snapping a couple of axles the diff is not something I want to pull to pieces anymore. I'm sure it can't be that hard to install but it's not something you would want to get wrong.

$$$$$

And Dean - you will need to learn how to drive all over again ...............or can you say SNAP!

Good pick-up though - you will not regret it - just keep an eye out for a front locker now and you will swear you have a new car.

thanks blair for the help, even though you did use the words, axles, locker and snap

has anyone done one of these? dad was a mechanic, my neighbours an ex mechanic, and i dont really know shit, but i like to think i do, can we do this ourselves? is there any tolerances that need to be set or anything? or just pull the axles and raplace the diff??? wiring and compressor are the easy parts, im more worried about the diff itself... :? itll cost me $310 plus the compressor ($157) if i choose to buy the arb locker specific compressor, i dunno.....i wanna get these batterys sorted before anything, but i dont want the locker sitting round doing nuthing either...

ill def be on the look for a front arb, anyone?! :) so if anyones done an arb rear locker into an NH/NJ or similiar please give me something

Gday dude can get my hands on airtanks at the moment if your interested that way you can replumb your a/c or use a cheaper 12v commpressor they hld 9L at 140psi stainless steel extinguishers.
I'm looking at getting lockers and have found some but the bloke wants to do a diff swap wich means I loose my 4.88s so I looked into doing the work myself and its not worth it u need pullers etc and dont want to F'it up.
If I pull the centres out of both rigs the lad on manns rd will charge about 100 bucks to swap them over.(the lockers that is) And I will replace the diffs.
Came down Whitemans yesterday and turned around to try to get back up and had a bit of trouble. want the lockers for it

Have done these before, and the most difficult part is ensuring the gears ring and pinion mesh up OK - which they should if they were OK to start with. If they dont, then it's lots of work to put right. For 300, I'd pay the many!

PS Noisey, how do you break Paj axles??? Had one out of ours once, and it was big, certainly a lot bigger than Land Rover, or perhaps even Toyota axles! I understood they were very strong in the rear

yeh tyhinking im just gonna get it done for me,

so now, do i use one of the compressors i have,

-bushranger pro air series2 38L/min
-supercheap 72L/min

and run them into a tank and plumb it up to the locker, or should i buy the locker specific little compressor they got now for $157 and have that solely for the locker, and use the others as a portable for tyres???

I will get you one of the tanks I can get and you can plumb it up to do both and use onr of the tanks you already have. From what I know of lockers you only need 80psi to lock them in you dont need to keep pumping 80 psi into them continuously. spend your 137 elswere. the tanks are easy o plumb up they already have the 3 conections on them you just have to extend. Pump to tank to solenoid tank to air hose 4 tyres.
If your thinking of spending onother 150 on another compressor give me the 150 I got better things to spend it on.
When I get the locker kit I'm chasing at the moment I will sell the arb tank to cover my costs and convert my a/c to a compressor that fills my tank.

You don't need to run a tank for the lockers to engage. Either of the compressors you have will run the locker. By running a tank you will actually extend the amount of time it takes for the locker to have enough pressure to engage.

A tank is great if you intent to run air tools, clean chainsaws, blow up tyres or want to run a locker numerous times without a compressor running each time the locker is engaged.

Your right but if you have a tank precharged you my not need to use your commpressor at all

Post by klrevo »

yeh agreed blair,

but i want a system where i can use it for the locker and pump up tyres aswell,

do you run your locker off the endless system blair??? who set that up and what components and moneys are we talking???

i want to run the rear locker, and pump up tyres efficiently, and also run a front locker somewhere in the future, whats the best setup for this???

getting more confused than before, i thoguht i had it figured out :?

I run everything off the air system - the front sway bar disconnect , rear locker and all air tools. Did all the fab work with my old man but there was a lot of putting in and taking out before I got the system to a stage where I was happy. $$$ - it's a little hard to say but it was definately a lot cheaper than buying a compressor and getting someone to set it up.

At the moment the compressor system is out of the car so I'm looking at going stage two - twin Compressors instead of one A/C one compressor. I have never run A/C in the 5 years I've had the car so why not go overkill.
