Tcase Oil build Up

Hey all,
Was checking the levels in the cruiser today ( 1985 hj75) and when i got to the transfer case i almost coped a mouth full of oil, it seems to be way overfilled, to the point were its like a tap but i know the last time i filled it i did it to the correct level. Any ideas. I dnt know how i did it cause i didnt cross thread or force the bolt but i ended up not being able to tighten the bolt back in = thread is shot on bolt or in hole. Any ideas how to fix this? can i just tap a new thread and get a replacement bolt.

Gearbox seals shot- forces oil into transfer case...

Hard fix- rebuild the box...

Easy fix- two threaded plugs with a 90 degree barbed fittings in them, one in each box, and link together with hose...

check the level in the gearbox as well, if it's normal, then you might have water in your Tcase... if not what ferrit said is the go

I thaught when the seal goes it fills the gearbox with oil, and thats why the little pipe works because the gearbox filler is higher than the T-Case filler.

Going the other way wont work because the gearbox filler is higher?.?!?!? :?: :?:

T case becomes pressurised and forces the oil back out of the tube- its less resistance than the breather...

Cheers for the idea Ferrit, But where would i but the plugs in? Would this mean drilling into both case and gbox and then tapping the holes?

drill and tap the filler plugs.

You can buy the kit from repco off the shelf. Comes with plugs with barbed hose fittings on them (these replace your current filler plugs so there is no drilling and retapping) and the hose and clamps. It would be cheaper for you to go down to a fittings shop like Enzed and put the kit together yourself but if you cant be arsed buy the kit and be done with it. Obviously first you need to make sure that you need this mod to start with. If the gearbox is at the correct level then this mod wont fix your problem.

BPH2 - HOSE KIT-BYPASS (TRANSFER CASE) RRP $49.99
Ths is listed for HJ75 (2H) 11/84 to 01/90

One of the things i love to look for when i see landcruisers is if you look under most of them look for the tube that runs between the two boxes... bet you most will. Mine has :lol: :lol:
been running for years with this mod and never had a drama.
actualy if you use the sea through one like i have you get to see the condition of oil, and if water has got in.
