I thought this might have been an isolated problem, but after doing a couple of searches it seems it's happened to a few other people.
It's pretty obvious that the previous owner at some time lost the front left wheel somewhere, I didn't notice this until after I had bought it and took the wheel off to take a closer look. The problem wasn't too serious at the time so I left it until I had a bit of lazy cash around, but the nuts came loose again and now it can't wait until longer. The stud holes in the rim are completely stuffed and it would be sheer stupidity to drive around like it is (I've put the spare on).
Anyway, I want to replace all 6 studs on the front left wheel, is this an involved procedure? I don't have a press and would rather not spill oil everywhere. The swivel hubs also need doing, but if I can get away with just doing the wheel nuts for now I would much rather do that.
Also, I am about due for a new set of pads and discs up front. Is it much work to get the front discs off? It's an '89 Maverick.

Front brakes & studs
To get the disks off, pull your wheel off, undo the 2 bolts which hold your brake calipers on then remove ...tie up and away.
Then with a soft hammer, give your disk a tap (then again they may just come straight off) off and there you have it. Don't get in your truck at anytime and press your brakes....Just incase you feel like it.
As with anything you do new for the first time, pay attention to how it’s set up, make notes if needed, so you put it back in the same way and order it came off.

If I take the hubs off, will anything fall out (fluids or the like)? Anything that needs replacement if I were to just take it off, replace the studs/disc and put it back on?ats4x4dotcom wrote:rears come straight off, fronts are bolted to back of hub, meaning hubs off, exposing wheel bearings, which you may as well do at same time, and by then your not more than 20 minutes away from having the cv's out.
Also, any recommendations for pads & discs?
i replaced my front studs last week, you will need to take off the hubs, take out the 53mm nut and bearings and while they are out you might as well re pack them. take off the piece that is holding the studs, then just grab the hammer and hit out the old studs and whack some new ones in. there is nothing that will fall out of the hubs except maybe some grease.
