'96 Coily - Suspension Raise

Hello All,

I have got this quote from www.wholesalesuspension.com.au for extended coils/shocks for my coily:

We do a 30mm raised suspension kit for you Sierra. To supply you
with King Springs and Ultima shock absorbers to suit your raised height will cost you :
$295.00 including for the coils
$250.00 front 'raised' struts
$150.00 rear extended shock absorbers
all prices include GST

I have two questions:

1) Do these prices look reasonable?
2) I am pretty confident that I can install the new suspension myself but is there anything that I should be aware of when doing so?

My questions would be who makes the springs and shocks?

Installation is sh*t easy

Also 30mm is a small lift you will struggle to get 30" tyres without a bodylift

Thanks HRZOOK,

The coils are King Spring and the shocks are Ultima.

My suspension really needs replacing anyway, at least the front does, and I thought that this looked like an alright deal.

My intention would be to combine this with a body lift in the near future.

After spending way to much on different suspensions

I would consider what tyres you are trying to get under the car. Try to lift via springs with good travel shocks

If must do a bodylift try only to do a 1" than you shouldn't have to cut body studs.

Then strength control arms and mounts then enjoi

That's pretty expensive for 30mm

My guess is that the "raised struts" are in fact stock length front shocks with the coil bucket welded on in a different spot.

In my (well documented) opinion I think this kit will not really improve your car's behavior enough and will possibly amplify the poor suspension design of the coiler.

I would agree with the body lift comment, but I would go with a reversible 2" kit and adjust guard sizing to fit the tyre size you want to run and then very carefully work on your suspension over time.

look to ideas like small (1") coil spacers, and a rear sway bar, front bumpstop spacers and then a good suspension workshop (someone who does race/ rally type stuff) should be able to weld new coil seats onto pretty much your choice of front shocks. (allowing for the room you have to fit them)

I don't actually think that the spring rate is too bad on the coiler. the shocks are too soft and as it stands they have inadequate compression travel so they tend to hard bottom too easily.

Dead right. Im looking at a small lift soon (1.5") aswell, due to the springs are now well and truly shagged. Im more concerned about getting some long travel shocks, as the stock springs do still have a fair amount of compression to go once the shocks bottom out.

Soon as i get my tax return, im heading straight to Wilkonsons to sort a lift out. Ill let you know how i go.
