go the 350 more parts available, make more power from standard and are reliable. there is no substitution for cubic inches.

SO are you saying the chev's are a smaller motor across the heads ? any ideas on how much longer the 350 is compared to the 308.

Some figures would be nice if possible.

Thanx

definitely not true about the 253. if you have a petrol landcruiser you would be giong from the 2F which is a 257ci to a 253ci which is a downgrade. 253's are shit 308's aren't quite as shit and 350's are THE shit :D just can't beat that low down power. it'll be similar to the 2F

Thats the great thing about 350's. they don't rev. they make so much torque you just change gears  if you want to rev put a zook engine in it :finger:

How full is your wallet. They are a different block but the crankis interchangable. You can put in a 350 crank to destroke it and make it rev.

A 350 can go well, Just ask any sprintcar driver  .

400 blocks have siamese bores and i have heard of this being a problem temp wise. don't underestimate the 350 though as pongo says they can get ALOT of power out of them even without forced induction. They will push a 40 along quite easily

the 2 above lists are setout like .....

MODEL
CYL
DISP / CC.
TYPE
Kw@RPM
Nm@RPM

and the conversion tables for us older guys ..... ;)

Horsepower (hp) = Kilowatt (kw) x 1.34

Kilowatt (kW) = Horsepower (hp) x 0.746

Torque (lb.ft.) = (Brake hp x 5252) / RPM

Litres (l) = Cubic Inches / 61.02

Cubic Inches = Litres x 61.02

Normal

The 253 will rev its tits off and is a great little power plant problem is they simply run out of puff when the real grunt is needed. The 350 on the other hand wont rev until you spend some $$$$ on good "hot up bits ", then hang on to ya undies !!!

Best way to describe the differance......
4cly bling bling ricer versus a Western Star truck

the 253 will be quite nimble and quick, will rev out and pull realy well..... thats until you chuck a trailer on behind and a few mates jump in aswell then it will become a lazy gutless asmatic engine

The 350 will pull regardles whether its running empty or loaded to the hilt .

As for the actual engine dimensions......
the 253 is lower in height but wider in width than the 350. The difference is less than 2". The length of the 2 engines is also very close with the 350 being slightly longer, again its SFA difference

Power figures dont mean much, Dry run, wet run, ambient temp., air filters, fuel system, blah blah blah???

But what ever you do use EFI

i'll bring up an old argument here, the 350 definatly lacks take of power and is lazy to about 3500rpm i have to ride the clutch in the 3 i've driven to get off the line ans they were only running 33's

where as the 308 seems to take of better and pull harder all the way it dun make as much torque but makes better use of it, pitty it dun sound as good.

but if i had the money i would love a 351 clevo hands down

Definetlya 350, or 327.

400 to long of a stroke. 253 boat ancher, 308 not as much torque as a 350 and torque is what its all about.

get a 454 spend 10-15 on it

a little diff but a 351 is just as easy to get and fit and i have heard are a good motor for a 4wd

was considering putting one in my 60 series but have decided to pull my injected 304 out of my caprice christmas time and throw it in

but would deff go a carby for 4wding as less things to go wrong, you wouldnt want a computert problem going through a 4ft deep mud hole a couple hours from a town would you
