I have finally tracked a weird rattle noise that appeared to come from under the dash to the bonnet hinge. Its securely attached to the bonnet and the firewall so whats the go do they come loose where it pivots or what? Anyone taken one off to see how it can be tightened. If I put the bonnet up and shake the bonnet side to side near the hinge the rattle sure seems to come form there and sitting inside it sounds the same. WHat is the bes tway to remove a hinge, one at a time? It looks like it may be a 2 person job as I suspect the bonnet will be pretty heavy if its just hanging on one hinge.
Mate i have the same problem. Over larger bumps u get a harsh knock? I pulled the bonnet off the hinges and was shocked at how much sideways movement the hinges had in them. Im still in the process of chasing sum up at the moment. Wonder if anyone on the forum can help us out with a set of replacement hinges?
Have you guys tried pricing them genuine? I've been quite surprised at how cheap most genuine priced patrol parts are.
I've priced a couple of things from wreckers and ended up getting them cheaper genuine.
I'd strongly recomend you check genuine prices before getting second hand or aftermarket.

Ive spoken to a mate who had the same problem and he reckons that the hinge had like a heavy rivet through it and he tightened it by whacking it with a mash hammer while the other side was on a lump of steel (old section of railway line) having not taken mine out to look, does that sound like it would work.?
As bodgey as this sounds I used a crowbar to bend the hinge a touch to stop the ratlle on my first gq. Was just about to use this method for my current gq, but after reading this thread I think I'll try numbnut's advice

This is exactly what I did and have not had the rattle since. Only takes about 15 minutes (including removal and refitting, just mark where they are before removal from the bonnet and firewall for easy realignment). Just give the pins light thumps with the hammer then try pivoting the hinge, keep going till it starts to get a bit stiffer and your problem will be solved.
