Fitting a 2H into a Shorty 40

Post by Hardcorr »

OK, I've read alot about the shorties on here, has anyone changed a 3B over to a 2H in a Shorty 40.
I just happen to have a 60 series sitting around doing nothing, and a Shorty with a 3B in it. I'm going to change the 3B over to a 2H in the next few weeks.
Has anyone done this, and if so, what am I in for?
I know the engine mounts need to be moved, that's an easy thing to do. But, running a tape over it looks like the radiator might need moving as well. I'm not sure though, as the other Shorty I bought for spares had a 2F in it, and the radiator didn't seem to be too much different to this one that has the 3B in it.
I'm taking the 2H, 4 speed box, and transfer out of the 60 and putting in together.
If anyone has any hints, let me know, if not, I will find out in a couple of weeks.

Cheers

what year 40?

radiator might need it's tanks changed to suit the inputs for the 2h, wiring (glow plugs edic etc?) you probably need a 2f or a hj47 radiator shroud to suit.

no reason it won't go in, the hj47's came out with them standard...

crossmember on the transfer case might need some work if it's an earlier 40 that didn't have the tcase crossmember

It's a 1980 model. I bought three of them all up, and have a sh!t load of spares. One of them was a 2F so I'll have the bits from it lying around.
I'm sure between all the shorty bits, and the 60 (complete and running) that is the donor car, I should have enough bits. Maybe need to get hold of some bits and peices, but Central Queensland don't have accessible wreckers that you can just go into to source or measure up different parts.
