vitara or sierra?
vitara or sierra?
I was wondering your opionon on getting a vitara or sierra for my first car. I will be using it 65% on road 35% off. no spoa!
]i would like it havin 31's and 4inch lift all up. dont like the ifs side of the vitara but is it capable of 31'' muddies?

I got my sierra when i was 15 and have slowley done it up and i think it's good to have experiance in a car thats my daily driver with no power steering and such a small wheel base with leaf springs. I'm 17 now and know the car inside out. How old are you? A sierra i think has more varity for mods and is probably much more fun off road than the vitara. Just my 2c worth

Any particular reason for 31's and 4" of lift?
Pros and cons to both vehicles. What is your budget and what do you really want from it?

i had 31's under my vit with only a 2" body lift. if you care how the car drives onroad, get a vit, if you just want to drive it on weekends etc get a sierra. vits are more powerful and can run 31's much easier that a sierra although sierra front end is stronger :( low range and 31's on a vit is not too bad.

I got mine for $3500 with the lockers, winch small lift, better seats, 30 inch tyresand so far i've put on a bigger lift, snorkel, storage drawes in the back, Full doors and a ute style soft top and it owes me about $4500 all done on a budjet. I agre it turns into an on going project every time you look at it you think it's not that high. I will save up and get to 33's some time. It keeps up with jeeps that are running 33's and lockers . Shop around and you'll find something good.

I posed the same question not so long ago, Sierra or Vitara?
I drove a couple of each, and decided to go with the Sierra - and haven't looked back I might add. There seemed to be a better selection of aftermarket products for the Sierra, and I just think they are cool!
I didn't care so much about road manners - Its the first vehicle I've owned in 7years of transport with a roof! (my last was an '02 Honda CBR954 - 11cm suspension travel, so anything feels smoother to drive on road!).
I do miss the power on the road tho, gone from roughly 660kW/ton to 50kW/ton, but power isn't everything, the zook is WAAAAY more fun!

Use cheap tools... Its better to break the tool than the part!

I have now modded it to suit my needs and it has all been done on a budget. 90% of the work was done by me.
So far it has front locker, extractors, 2inch exhaust, 3inch body lift, 31inch Simex Extream Trekkers, Series 3 rockhoppers, sports seats, rock sliders, custom front bar, winch, spotlights, rocklights, dual batteries, water pipe snorkle, and all the GPS and radios i need and at a total cost of $4600 and that includes the origional purchase price.
I have found the sierra was a good buy and have had lots of fun with it over the last 2 years and mechanicaly it has never let me down.

if you are gonna drive on road the majority of the time and want a good all round car go a vitara ive got both a vit and sierra the vit is a really comfortable car and capable offroad mines got 31" mtr's 3.5" lift open diffs and it goes well. leaf sprung zooks dont really compare to coils when drivin on road, thats just my opinion.

I know with the Vitara fitting 31s will require possible cutting of the guards as well as a good lift to clear the tyres in the front. A sierra with a suspension lift will clear the guards without any problems, Im more of a Sierra guy as i favour the live axles front back, but i have seen how well and capable my mates Vitara is so dont knock the IFS as such as a bad Idea to much. As said previously they Vitara will prove more comfortable on the road as well and little more power with the 1.6.
