RANGIE V8 MOTOR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by Hardzy »

BOUGHT A 84 RANGIE WITH THE CARBIE 3.5 ROVER V8. IT ALSO HAS A 3 SPEED AUTO BOX. MY PROBLEM IS I CANT GET THE ENGINE GOING. IT HAS FUEL GOING TO THE CARBY, IT HAS SPARK. THEREFORE A CAR SHOULD START. THATS WHERE MY PROBLEM IS. IT RUNS FOR A FEW SECONDS ( LONGEST OF 10 SECONDS) ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED

It may sound silly, have you tried using the choke.

I know mine wont start without it unless it has already been running in the last 6hours

The rubber diaphrams in the carbies fail. Remove the damper rod (plastic knob on top), then remove 4 screws and lift the top off to inspect the diaphram.

The fibre rubbing block on the points wear rapidly and the gap closes. May have spark, but not good spark. The 1st indication is harder to start.

These are the first things that I would check.
