HI all im new here im 18 and just brought a vitara jx 1991 modle its a 2 door.I want to lift it and put some muddies under it but not sure about the following things
. if i need new wheels to fit mud tyers
.lift how high and what type
.where to get this stuff done and how much....
im a verry keen off-roader and stock is gay...

All i can say is get to know your car before you start doing things like wheels, feel how it handles fix it's problems service it regulary.. and n 3 month you comfortable you have exhausted all the things that could be done burn a whole in your pocket with rubber
by the way i also happen to have spare 4 feroza rims, they are 6" and got bald 225 /75 on the which i thinks 28 inches

Dunno what your budget is, but if you have a spare $1000, go down to Tempe Tyres. Should get you a set of Sunraysias and 4 235/75 R15's. They will prolly scrub with stock suspension, but if you have a look at Sikid's posts on springs from other vehicles, you should be able to get at least a 2" lift for next to nothing from Pick a Part. 2" lift should give plenty of clearance with no scrubbing with 235/75 15's.

is your vit a soft top or a hard top?
and if you have a budget for about a grand, then its either you will have to wait, work and save more money to do the mods you want. a grand can buy you a good set of muddies new, and not retreads. MT/Rs are a very good inbetween tyre. and can be bought for a good amount.
as for lift, well, there are many ways you can go. obviously the ultimate would be a calmini 3" super articulation kit, but for $1800, you could do a lot of other things. you have OME kits, 1" lift, about $1000 or so thereabouts, or tough dog kits from opp lock, and TJM maybe also. around about the same lift, 1"-2" for the same amount of money.
or you could get a 6" (3" really) lift for under $1000.
i have a 3" BL, $350 custom made. my sus lift is all budget, and works for what i want.
if you look in the bible, there are many threads on budget lifting, including coil spacers and coils out of other cars. also rear shocks can be bought cheap if you know what you are looking for. if you cant splash out for OME struts, a strut mount flip might be good enough. it all really depends on what you want your vit to do, and where you drive. i know you want a hunting rig, so you might load up a bit, and maybe a fair bit of mud work.
you can get King springs HD coils, lifted up to 2", and i think for about $150-$200/pair, so $400 for front and back, 1" coil spacers, $100, strut mount flip, free, commo shocks for the back, $150, and you should be riding about 3" taller. with a 3" BL, you will be able to fit 31"s comfortably.
i did not say anything on how well this combo goes, as i have not tried it, but others may forward input to how good king springs are. they also do custom coils, so if you know what you are after, it might be better.
but all up, for about $1000, you can have 3" sus lift, and 3" BL running stock wheels and tyres. then there is the extractors, and 2" exhaust, and the lockers, and so on. IMHO, a rear locker is best, leaving the front unlocked is better. then there is the weber, but horses for courses.
a 91 model JX manual, should be carby, and should have 5.12 diff gears already, so you should be good with gearing and 31"s. i used to run 33"s, and will again soon, with stock gearing.

OD is about 100mm, but 110mm is ok too. then just cut the lengths you need, maybe 30mm for the front, and 40mm for the back. then you will need to bore out the centres, or use a hole saw. i can't remember the centre hole dia, but i can find out for you. it should be in one of the threads in the vit bible anyway.
if you have a mate with a vit, or X90, you can go halves, and have 2 lifted vits etc etc. $100 each is cheap for a 2"ish lift.

dude, almost all of this stuff is in the vit bible. when you decide to do something, and you then get stuck, then we are here to help. a 3" BL is worth the effort. anything less, and my opinion is, what for? you might as well get the grinder out and cut your guards. will take less time and less money. then you can clear the 35" boggers.

you want to put muddies on your vit.
yes you can fit mud tyres to your original rims.
or you can buy sunnies to fit them on.

you can do the stuff yourself, or you can pay a shop to do it for you.
my first mod to my vit apart from painting it, was 235/75/15 MT/Rs on my stock rims. i had no lift at this stage.

In less an 12 months, you will want to go bigger, but to do this you will need to address your gearing, which is expensive.
After the BL and some second hand muddies, save your money and put an air locker in the rear diff. This will make more difference to the off road ability of the car than ANY amount of lift and tyre.
Take it easy - trust me, I've been driving in the bust for 13 years and I still lean stuff and learn to try new ideas. Vitara's are stable and low, make the most of this and learn the car's limits and your own. A car with a smallish tyre and a locker will often show up much "bigger" cars if driven sensibly.
That said, cutting the guards is a great way to go. We had a car in the club in Vic with 1" of lift and 33" tyres, so it is not all about lift.
