EA or similar Throttle body on TB42

Post by Tiny »

Ok,

I am interested in working on a cheap turbo option for a TB42, as turbos dont work well with carys, particularily if intercooled I was hoping someone may be able to shed some light on the usability of a throttle body off an EA or similar falcon.

Basically it would be a pretty cheap option top run something like this on straight gas (dual fuel if you wish) with a cheap bar a plate intercooler, a 300zx turbo with a 2.5" exaust and probably get out of it for $2000ish depending on whet yiu can get the car on gas for.

wih the new rebate this couls be quite affordable and yeild in the area of 170Kw, basically 50odd kw increase for under $3000 plus a rebate on that from the gov sounds very tempting.

I would like to work on a kit, test it and map it with a new computer system we are working on to track all the figures etc

thoughts for and against or any bright ideas would be great

thanks

Alot of work, could work. Do you get the rebate if you do it yourself, i thought u had to get a registered gas fitter to fit it all, and this will add to the budget.

The GQ efi kit I bought off BRU21 was a EA singlepoint throttlebody, adapted to the TB42 manifold.

The GQ turbo kit I just sold, had a ED throttlebody adapted to a TB42 manifold, for straight LPG/Turbo.
BTW, It was re-advertised here a few days ago, as the guy who bought it, didn't buy a Patrol to fit it to.

Bru21 did a thread on using an EA throttle body for a cheap EFI conversion.

Search for it - if I recall rightly the throttle body itself was very close to a bolt-on conversion, just lengthening some bolt holes with a file. Other fiddly stuff was to do with the ECU, sensors etc, but that's not an issue with what you're planning I guess.

We've got BRU21 efi conversion sitting in a box at work. As Chimpboy said it only needs a couple af holes elongated to fit to a TB42 manifold. The throttle body mounts up back to front on the manifold.

ahh it lives on!

not a lot of work but would need to look at fuel volumes as it may not handle it. the mpfi (falcon) is about $300 dearer but may work out better.
