LPG Fumigation on diesels who's done it?
Got my patrol booked in for november to get the lpg fumigation system put in. $3500, $3000 of govt rebates so only costing $500.
looking at 20% more power and 20% better fuel economy. Seems better than a turbo.. Love the idea of more power for towing the boat then just flick the switch off and save the gas for when I need more power again.

nos is not detrimental on a petrol engine.
it just has to metered correctly along with the fuel.
and to much will blow the engine
exactly like turbocharging an engine
and exactly like fumigating a diesel.
people are scared of nos because they dont set it up correctly. A 50-100 shot of nos is safe on just about any healthy engine.

It is nothing like running NOS - NOS is a source of oxygen (so effects the engine in a similar way to turbocharging), LPG is a source of fuel.BadLux wrote:for those who do not understand how it works, it is comparable to running nos on a petrol.. Ok well i spoke to a mechanic today who had spoken with an lpg gas fitter about putting the lpg on a diesel and he said it was very risky and that he's been fitting gas to cars for 20 years and would not put the lpg fumigation on his own car. Says that because gas is very dry if the ratios of diesel to lpg are not right it will dry out the bore etc etc. he also said that because it goes in through the inlet manifold if the valve clearances or somthing are out the whole thing will detonate rooting the motor. Although this is coming from a guy who is not familiar with the exact technology so I'm not really that fussed what he thinks. Although I think i'll do a bit more research on the subject..

I only had a quick look, but I didn't see any specific mention where the vehicle had to be a petrol vehicle being converted.
The rebate is also applicable for the fitting of second hand systems (by a licensed fitter of course )
Most of the official guidelines are not going to be published until September, but the FAQ seems to answer most common issues.
Apparently Howard came out and said that if your conversion costs less than $2000, you still get the full $2k! How many conversions just went up in price overnight to the magic $2,000 ??

ok, we had a oppsite lock car in work the other day that had this fitted and when it was on the hoist i had a look appers they have set theres up with a small tank under the car pump to a mixer spraying the gas as a mist into the inlet track. Speaking to the bloke that fitted it he said they dynod it with a 30% power increse - this was on a turbo desiel ra rodeo
he also said its not made to be run all the time and does not stop the desiel from pumping, just adds gas for a power increse -like the way nos would.
This is not a fuel saving mod more a performace mod but if you caould still get gov rebate then would be worth it for more power

seen a lot on the net about these types of systems.
afaik they are designed for PROPANE not lpg. lpg in NZ and AUS is not straight propane and at times can be a little crappy. there have been a fair few reports of peole blowing up motors with these setups.

is it gas going into the inlet or liquid? if its going to a mixer then i guess its gas which dosn't have a mist. the liquid injeccted ones sprays a mist of lpg in which also cools the air a little bit.pump to a mixer spraying the gas as a mist into the inlet track

FIRSTLY, folks, as has already been mentioned, W.A. is a jump ahead of the rest of Australia with the rebate for gas conversions.
Such rebates have been available for quiet some time, I made enquiries about diesel fumigation fitting early on this year and was told then, W.A. gave a $500 rebate.
At the time, I was quoted $3,500 for fitting said system.
Recently our Premier announced the rebate would be increased to $1,000 per installation.
The Prime Minister followed this with his announcement that the Federal Govt would also introduce a $2,000 rebate for gas installations.
Thus making a total of $3,000 worth of rebates, and IMHO that's nothing to poke a stick at, no matter from what angle you're gonna look at this issue.
Moreover I've recently been in contact with the Diesel Australia representative for W.A. and he's assured me the price of fitting the system is still at $3,500 thus the total cost to an individual for the fitting of lpg fumigation (for whatever reasons) comes to a measly $500 bucks.
That's the GOOD NEWS. YEAH, there's always some BAD stuff.
No 1, is you gotta pay $3,500 up front to the supplier/fitter, then submit the paper work for the rebate to the respective authorities, ie
State and Federal.
No 2, I have been told, statewide there will be a slight delay in receiving your rebate, as every dog is jumpin on the band wagon and they've got a lot of paper work to go thru, thus it could be a month or two before you get your STATE rebate.
Additionaly, there is a proper form you must submit, which will be supplied by the fitters.
No 3, Federaly, I suspect they'd be snowed under on a much lager scale, therefore I'd expect their rebate to take considerble longer.
I've also found out, that up until now, they haven't even yet written out the Form, nor the protocol to be followed for the rebate.
Mark from Diesel Australia has very kindly supplied me with the web site associated with the FEDERAL rebate, where you can browse and check out things to your hearts content.
My own opinion on this, I intend to WAIT until the Federal Govt has finalised the protocols for the rebate, then I'll be in like flynn.

I do believe you have clarified exactly what i said in previous threads. I have spoke to GAS FITTERS in Perth who have been trying to tell me otherwise.. So as far as misinformation goes Im glad I atleast got it right. I spoke to mark last week about it all aswell and have mine booked in for december, how i'm gonna finance it I have no idea!!

This document (In the link above) is changing every day. Last week when I printed it out it stated that only $1000 would be given for a vehicle that was converted to dual fuel. Now there is no mention of it?
Im gathering now this means the full $2000 will apply?!?!?
