Hi Guys.
I am looking for more information on fitting a 302 Winsor into a 94 Hilux, has anyone here have one?
I am suprised that not many are around as the Ford iV8s even smaller than a Chev/Holden/Toyota V8? Should fit better

id stick with the chev, holden or the lexus v8s as they have a tighter V the the ford motor and are either rear mounted dizzy or efi. i believe the autos a better too with loads of spairs and not to pricey.
chev would be the smallest motor but is a tiny bite taller. this would make the fire wall clearance easyer.

Have you seen a Ford V8 next to a chev or holden, it is tiny (Not the clev, it huge!) Can you buy of the shelf mounts for a Ford motor?
I was anti Ford until I bought a Patrol with 302 clevo in it- now I'm a fan! A 302 windsor (like Ozrunner) is a beautiful fit in the hilux- have a look at a pic of how tight a lexus is!
The 351 windsor is a bigger motor (9.7" deck height) and would be tight. The 302/ 351 clevo is smaller (9.2" deck height) and the 302 windsor the baby (8.2" deck height?).
With the windsor you will need to spend some $$ on head mods to make the conversion worthwhile though.

Pffffffft and you would know . The Windsor has been around for 45 years and because of its history it is recognised worldwide as the most reliable V8 EVER produced.The other reason people don't use ford motors is they dont want to lose the jap quality and reliability by putting an inferior ford motor........ isn't that why we buy Toyotas.
No complaints regarding Toyota quality etc re the bodywork but the first thing most want to do “when we buy Toyota’s” is get rid of the Hilux asmatic excuse for a 4wd engine as per Richrides query !!

Toy V6 – 105Kw and no torque
My Cobra – Approx 260Kw + and more grunt than a pig farm.
Toy V6 – If you’re lucky around 15-16L/100. Can have head gasket issues and oil leaks like you wouldn’t believe. The 2.4/2.7 4cyl’s are excellent engines but no grunt for a 4wd.
My Cobra. 11.5-12L/100. Beats most stock factory Toyota’s and its got 260Kw !!!!!!!!! NO friggin contest. Been across Oz 12 times and it never misses a beat.

Mate, AFAIK there are no mounts available from shops but I have to say even though the Ford is the narrowest engine etc and by the way the distributor issue is another crock of sh*t, but like any V8 into a Hilux it is still not an easy conversion. If you don’t have the equipment or skills to do most of the conversion yourself, I would seriously suggest you give consideration to a Commodore V6 Ecotec, which is simple, straightforward and full conversion kits are readily available.

Have you seen a Lexus V8? It's near on being a boxer motor it's that wide, who told you they're a tight V? They made a 289, 302 and 351 windsor. 351 Windsor was installed in the early XW GT falcon and was then replaced by the 351 cleveland. I've seen a 1000 hp twin turbo windsor in a xy falcon. Needless to say it went pretty well.

The 351W was introduced in 1969 and was also used in XW GT's etc and it was then replaced with the Cleveland versions. The 351W is slightly wider than the 302 due to the increased deck height.

Ozrunner, I don't have a problem with swapping engines or electrics but my downfall is with making mounts to pass engineering, ever though of making some to sell?
I love the Windsor after driving a very old ZW ute with a 302 about 8 years ago, very smooth for a motor that would be the same age as me!! (a 69 model)
How does it fit around the sump? and can it bolt to a R150/G52 with a aftermarket bellhousing, early Falcon, 91/2001 Falcon or a bronco sump a better fit?

Those who insist that the front mounted distributor is a problem just got no idea!
1 - It is easier to fix any probs. If it does get wet it's much easier to dry out.
2 - IMO, during a water crossing, surely water will push up against the firewall and wash over a rear mount dissy, whereas to wet a front dissy the plugs and carby are gunna be underwater already.
3 - It gives you the option of mounting the engine way back in the engine bay, improving weight distribution.

Mine is in an IFS 4Runner and as you have a live axle Hilux you should not have any major sump issues. Check the various sump designs available and work out approx where it would sit and compare the different sump type clearances on full articulation etc.
I used the double pan sump and modified the rear section for my diff clearance but with the right sump you shouldn't have any major problems. A body lift will also make things a LOT easier as it will allow you to position the engine a tad higher for extra clearance.
As far as mounts go they are available in the US but its much easier to sit the engine in the location it NEEDS to be for overall clearance and then make some to suit that location. No big deal just cut some out of 3/8 plate and weld on . The major issue is to consider the front clearance for a fan and rad etc.
However, before you do anything it would be wise to check with your local DOT to ascertain if they will approve a V8 swap as some won't.
Do not use a G or W series trans as they are not really strong enough. Use an R series and probably the best would be the R150 (V6 4Runner and some Surfs) as its ratio's are reasonable for overall general use and its common. Ring Dellows re a bellhousing. If you want a lower first then go the R151.
I used the R154 as its ratio's are more suited for my needs but it has a 30mm longer input shaft than the other R series so they can't be used on the same bell and besides the R154 are very hard to find and go for a lot more than the others. I am now considering fitting a 6 speed T56 .
