I don't see why it wouldn't be safe, so long as its been made properly, but i also don't see why you would buy one :? How hard is it to just put the snatchy through the tounge (?). Just looks like more stuff that CAN break eventually.

No

Weld appears to be a fillet only, quality doesnt look very special and appears to run off at the end. Pretty chunky billet to be welding, wonder if it was preheated? Was the ring welded with a full pen weld or just surface welded? No rating or testing mentioned.

Yup. Ditto.

I don't see the problem with the pin in the Hayman Reece fitting anyway.... except when its submerged which makes it fiddly. With that one, you'll still need to put a shackle onto it anyway, and I suspect that D link will be a new weakest part.

cant tell if the d-ring is joined or has a break in the middle.
if you pull on an angle it could distort and pull one side out.

Yeah the welding doesn't worry me as much as the part of the "D" you can't see...

Looks a bit scarey. If you want one to go into your tow hitch, get one of those ones that you put a bow shackle through the end of.

looks like a rud lug welded onto a custom tow hitch..... "IF" it is a rud lug, it would be pretty strong... wouldn't use it to snatch though unless it's been tested and rated.

Welding is crap and unless the shackle is specially cast or drop forged someone's gunna wear it.

I would also suspect the shackle is split where it goes into the bush otherwise how did they get it in there. maybe the bush section is actually a c section, even worse.

Do not buy one :!:

Why would you buy any of those brackets, when just as easily and simply you can leave the tongue in, without the ball, and put your shackle thru the hole where the ball bolts thru?
Same thing, except you already have one. No need to spend money for nothing....

Notice the ad says "TOW" shackle, not snatching ring etc.

I agree, I wouldnt snatch with something like that but it's probably ok for towing.

I've heard of the L shaped tongue being torn off before, and embedding in a tree. I think there was a video going aruond a while ago...

Becuase most tongues stick out more than the recovery hitch ones with the D shackle.

I've got the recovery hitch that BBM sell and basically all that sticks out is the D shackle. If I was using my H & Reese tongue I would have to take it out after every use. Where with the BBM one I don't have to because it doesn't stick out enough to get hooked up on.

Cheers Mick.

That way you can bend a pin fairly easily. You are better off to use the properly made snatch-reciever so it is double sheer on the pin.

The one in the ebay add is not something I would trust anyones life or vehicle with.
