ok, ive got a 95 diesel 80 series, with dual batterys and i believe Cobra car alarm. has remote fob for lock/unlock doors (1 button), engine immobiliser, little flashing light on dash to let you know if alarm set/immobiliser is set.
had to replace aux battery on sat cos it was cactus (6.7v), decided to replace both. when i connected main battery, alarm went off after around 30 secs (ie after tightening uo bolt). nearly blew my ears out. disconnected main battery.
i connected up aux battery, there is a switch in engine bay for mechanic mode or something, basically stops alarm setting itself (which it will do about 30-45 secs after turning car off) and then alarm going off when bumping the car when working on it. so i simulate bonnet closed, connect up main battery and then lock unlock doors from remote. all seems good so start up car and run for around 10-15 mins.
pack tools up, turn off car and lock car. inside house and about 30 mins later(i think) alarm goes off. so back outide try remote but lock unlock doors only momentarily stops alarm, so disconnect main battery again. ears very sore now. don't know if can use car cos don't know if alarm will go off again, unlock doors?
have search here and lots of other places on net, lots of other people with similar problem, but no answers that i could find. does anyone have any ideas/advice ....

Stupid car alarm playin0g up after replacing battery - HELP

Sometimes it works out cheaper to just chuck out the old one and install a new alarm. If you know how to install it yourself that is.
But then again, being a reputable brand you have, its probably not too hard to fix. Sounds like a problem with voltage sensing. When the battery voltage changes due to dual battery setups, the alarm thinks a door has opened (interior light comes on, changing voltage, alarm triggers). Some alarms use pin switches to alter setups, newer ones use the ignition key, turning on and off and pressing buttons in sequences to change settings. Possibly disconnecting it all has made it go back to default settings?

I'm pretty sure it is a MONGOOSE M60 series alarm, I think it is the S series but the original siren with battery backup died so was replaced with a piezo siren.
