Thredbo is even further from anywhere, and that place is packed solid full of people for 4 months a year.grimbo wrote:Berridale may be a great site inregards to terrain offered etc but I can't see it being very good for spectatr numbers. its a long way from anywhere really, close to Canberra but a long haul from melbourne and Sydney
A hell of a lot of people live in the snowys, they will come to watch.
At the oz-rock comps I have been to the crowd has been maybe 10% 4x4 people that travel to the competitions, and 90% local community out for an enjoyable day. All the credit for this is due to the oz-rock crew for the relentless advertising they do.
It's unreal when you look around the small area where you are and there is hundreds of people standing there with jaws dropped and amazed looks on their faces because they've not seen anything remotely like rockcrawling before.
If the 4x4 fans won't travel to watch these competitions the spectator numbers will still be good (and have been).
Walbundrie was what 3-4 hours from melbourne compared to 7-9 for Berridale. Comparing it to skiing is alittle different as it is a known sport/recreation whereas rockcrawling is still in its infancy.
I'm just saying for a sport in its infancy I would have thought initially getting as many people there easily would be a better bet and then later people will know what's what and travel the extra miles to get there.
I tried to organise a group of friends (about 10) to get to the last event but we could all only make it on one day and we couldn't justify a 3-4 hour drive each way to see an event. They will all be in the same situation for all events but are very keen to go and see it but if they are all going to be in NSW then they can't make it.
The initial prospect of rockcrawling in Victoria was great, it meant easy access to a spectacular spectator friendly event. It was an event that could easily be enjoyed for a single day or the entire weekend. Families could go easily enough.
The couple I have been too have been fantastically organised, with everything you could need for an event, easy access, good facilities on site and a great spectacle put on.
But if they continue to be put on interstate it will make it hard for many to get to them

it's ozrock, not vicrock. there are only x number of buggies in victoria. we need more nsw buggies to make the comp bigger and better. 6 buggies at yea was weak (pointing my finger at you ppl with buggies that didn't turn up!).
we're going to stay in buckenderra for a few days afterward and put money back into the local area. take some time off work and make it a mini holiday graham. bring your wife and enjoy some romantic time after the comp.
ps: i'll drive the blue rod.ent if the seat is free. at least i'll fit, but i ain't wearing a firesuit!

All the discussion of the new legislation(comps on private land) do you really think it is wise to set up all the comps in vic as well as enticing all competitors not just victorians as previoulsy stated its OZROCK not VICROCK, as well as this we are trying to obtaint the use of the best rock and terrain available,so if YOU know of any please let us know.BTW thats for you imput into the subject on comp destinations ,we are trying the best we can.grimbo wrote:Walbundrie was what 3-4 hours from melbourne compared to 7-9 for Berridale. I know you guys are doing a great job and I hope you do understand I'm not knocking just making some observations. I have been trying to source a couple of places one is just need the Yea property but they are in the process of gaining Organic certification for part of the property so understandably are wary of motor sport on the property at the moment. Also trying to find out about a property in heathcote, friend of a friends next door neighbour.

The Qlds might make an appearance but at a later date event. A few of us are still sorting costs as far as haveing a container trucked down with all the buggies and gear then we might fly and mini bus it. As you could all imagine it would be a hell of a drive from brissy. Any ideas for us just let us know.

Just an observation, but it has been a hell of a drive for the Victorians to compete in miscellaneous events staged in NE NSW and SE QLD up until now.not not wrote:The Qlds might make an appearance but at a later date event. You still have your northern events, OZROCK is simply trying to add to the southern states events
George Carlin, an American Comedian said; "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realise that half of them are stupider than that".
I dont get what your trying to say Damkia? Is there a problem with us wanting to come down and compete in these events as i am shore there is not a problem with the organizers of OZ Rock
Well maybe GUTS but who cares

Good to hear that some Canadians are prepared to come south for Victorian/S NSW events. Hope to see you there.........

Yeah ok Realistically we do have a few events we can attend up here but we think it will be worth the effort to come down and mix it up with the southerners. It might not be the next round but like said earlier we are trying to sort a few things out as so to make the most of it and bring a few buggys down. 4 are interested so far and perhaps a few more if finances permit. So should be worth while for everyone.

l'm trying to sorce a truck for you blokes to put ya rigs on would l be correct in saying that no one rig is more than 2.4 or 8ft long ?????? this way l may be able to sneek them on as a back load to cooma from brizzy or something like that.BTW can l have interested possible Competitors that would wish to use such a service if made available. This may be a future option for the Walbundrie comp as well.not not wrote:The Qlds might make an appearance but at a later date event. If you can get your camping/workshop gear down a day or two early some of us could put your tents up, etc, so when you lob in you're pretty much ready to go. Some of us have the ability/flexibility to organise ourselves to move our employment commitments around these events....
