Asked this guy how it could be a 4.2 litre if it's a 1982 patrol... it's what he "believes" it to be...

Looks like a tidy MQ other than the fact that it can't be a 4.2 litre... can it?

I agree...seen many people confuse the P40 as a 4.2L when it really is a 3.9L.

I was going to say if it has the P40 there is a good chance it has a full floating rear diff which is pretty rare in MQ's. But I can see in the pics it doesn't have a FF rear. If it does have a P40 though from the factory it may have some interesting gearing in the diffs.

I don't really care - in that I am not interested in buying it - it's more that I can't imagine owning or selling a car without knowing what kind of engine was in it!

It's a P40 with 4.1 ratios, not full floater.

Right but didn't the full floater come in P40 Patrols? Paticuarly Utes and Van models? Are the full floater H233's pretty rare in Aus/NZ?

I am curious because I have a light duty C200 in the rear and it will get replaced before doing a SoA or buying a locker. And if importing a diff to the USA I may as well get the best available, shipping isn't cheap from Aus to USA. If spending money to import I usually try to buy the best....which means I will be looking for the full floating H233.
