Which Clutch for 80 Series GXL Factory TD ?? Opinions?
HI All
I am sure this question has been asked before at some time.
Can anyone recommend what the best cltch would be for my 80 TD?
Would like to get some opinions on what everyone is using.
Will be used for offroad and beach.
Currently constant 4wd, maybe conversion at a later date.
Thanks in advance

Hi there,
Ive got a RPM Heavy Duty Clutch fitted to my 1hdt around 7 months ago, has been a great clutch on and off road
i cant remember the price of the unit but my mech charged me around $550 fitted and ive been told that this price was a great deal so i was pretty happy
thumbs up for the clutch, hopefully this helps just that little more in choice

I've used a Daiken Safari clutch in my 60. It's a std 60 series one, but is behind an intercooled 1HDT and is so far holding out. I only got 5K out of the std yota one, got it replaced under wty, then that one lasted about 8K. The Safari so far has done around 48K and doesn't show any signs of slipping, even on the weekend towing 1200kg. This is pretty good allowing for the difference in the size of the clutch being 1" smaller than the std 80 series turbo clutch. Reasonably priced too.
Damian.
should I swim it first ?

[]Seems too cheap for a HD clutch, I paid $500 for the clutch kit alone (fitted it myself). ... exedy safari tuff something... cant remember the full name

Im loving it, it just goes or goes, no slipping whatsoever even when riding the pedal... I put it in a bit more than a year ago with the diesel conversion and just recently turbocharged and the clutch is still going strong... touch wood.

Did you find the clutch harder to operate (push). The missus is driving a bit as well and her legs aren't that strong ... lol

Just beware that the clutch for the factory TD is different to that for an aftermarket 1HZ.
1HD-(F)T(E) clutches are 300mm vs. 1HZ 275mm. A factory HDJ100 clutch can be had for ~$350 trade from Toyota, and makes for a *slightly* stronger clutch than the OE HDJ80 one.
There also seems to be a much greater selection of aftermarket clutches for the 1HZ (when compared to the 1HD*s ) due to the number of people fitting turbos, etc.
