auto oil level dipstick position

has anyone ever had an issue with an over heatin tranny and it spitting oil onto the exhaust from the dipstick line?

looking at it today it looks like it coule be an issue... could just be me being paranoid too :oops:

It wasnt overheating. The breather was blocked

If it overheated enough to spit oil, FIX it or you'll end up with no gears. Take it from me I've seen it and smelt it.

If it overheated enough to spit oil, FIX it or you'll end up with no gears.
wasnt what I has fishing for...I was chasin to see if anyone had an undebonnet fire from the oil comin out the top of the dipstick straight onto the extractors, chewing gears is a whole different kettle of fish :roll:

and the likely hood of it happening?

sorry for the Q's I'm still newish to rovers and unsure if I should bother extending/relocating the dipstick so I dont have the "chance" of an underbonnet fire

Yeah i have had a problem with one of my old work vans, spat tranny fluid out of the dipstick onto the exhaust then caught fire, van was written off. Tranny boiled and spat it out

i have heard of this a few years ago on another forum, 2 or 3 extinguishers later and the series 1 hybrid still burnt to the ground.

Simon, you could have a blocked breather or an internal seal could be blown pressurising the box causing it to blow out the dipstick.

I've got no issues with overflow or anything similar the tranny is brand new :D , I was just playin in the engine bay the other day and thought to myself that it could be a problem if it does happen.

going by the responses it not too common and keepin my eye on the temp gauge should be enough.
