towing

Post by numbnuts »

just thinking, if i have a nissan patrol thats 2300kg and can tow upto 3500 kg does'nt this go over your legal 4500kg standard license? there for if i put my 500kg in the back then i can only tow 1700kg. take off the standard trailer 0f say 700 kg then you can only legally take 1000kg of gear. not much at all really.

No because the 4500kg limit is GVM (gross vehicle mass - mass of the vehcile only) adding trailer weight makes the Gross combination mass (GCM) On a Car license there is no apparent trailer or vehicle axle configuration limit (obviously limited byt the vehciles towing capacity though)

if it was in NZ you would be right. over 4500 gross (vechile AND trialer) you would need a truck licence.
