are there any aftermarket carby's available for a 308 that are suitable for offroad work and wont stall on hills.???

define hills?
every carb will have its limits, some handle side slopes better than others some go up hills better than others.

When I had my 400, I tried heaps of carbs trying to strike a balance between on and off road, quadrajets, thermoquads, 1,2 and 4 barrels, and even Holleys (don't ask :bad-words: ), square patern and spead bore, small CFM's to over 900 and non of them were perfect for my aplication, if you are looking for driveability on hills good throtle response economy and reliability I have 3 words for you.

Or you could just slap on a quadie grab the $2000 LPG grant and get a similar result :)

yeh have thought about lpg but am unsure wether performace parts are usable on a lpg engine

edlebrock make a carby for off road that can handle a fair bit of angle, other than that the only and best options are injection and LPG.

Cheezy's old Mav, was running a small block, twin gas carbs, fully sick alloy heads, fully sick pistons and exaust etc etc, and im pretty sure it was putting out around the 500hp mark :cool:

pretty sure thats preformance enough, and it runns on angles :cool: :cool:

yeh that would be plenty of performace but was that strait lpg or duel fuel

and does having it on duel fuel afect the amount of performace parts that can be installed

If your looking for a Rochester, I have the following - (bought it to put on my rangie to replace the Holley - but never got round to it and have since bought a newer car)

"4 barrel Rochester Quadrajet carby. Aussie spec, jetted for 253 (maybe even 308) Approx 12 months old Very good condition. Carb was bought as a remanufactured job. Not second hand. Heaps better than the standard carb. In fact it is probably one of the better carbies"

you can by floatless carbies that run straight off the jets with a high pressure fuel pump.... demon 900 is what ive seen with this sytem. manage to hold revs doing a wheel stand so should work pretty good offroad
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown

I had a holley 2 barrel injection on a 308. It was down a little on performance but at least you new you were going to get up the hill. Too many near misses with both holley and rochester carbies.

I have the same problem with a 4 cyl and I've been told to replace the stock carbie with a weber somthing about the fuel bowl being on the side instead of the the front.
I like the sound of the one that has no float. But then again you cant beat fuel injection

i've found that the carby on is a holley 4 barrell something and has no choke so it iddles shit and is slugish of the mark.

so going to get a better carby and put it on duel fuel

so i just need funds
