Just picked up a BJ42!!

Post by ol9fingers »

Just bought a 81 BJ42!! Wondering if this is the place to ask a few
questions?
Layman on 4x4s any advice would be great.
Its a super stiff ride, and have been told by a mate to take off the load bearing (smallest) leaf springs.. Any advice?
The steering seems to grab like hell and pull to differing sides...any ideas?

Is this beast to old to run on cooking oil? I've got a ready supply, and wondering if cotton seed, or rendered animal fats are better..
Any way,
Thanks in advance..

That could be any of many things including normal for a 40 shorty :)

Good choice of vehicle.

woo.. congrats on the purchase..

has the 40 got any lift?

you'll find the steering gets dodgy with extended shackles and a stiff ride could point to lifted springs. like you've heard to soften up the ride remove a few leaves from your spring packs, this will affect load carrying capacity. when i had some 32x12.5 tyres i dont think they were balanced very well and they were all over the road..

the JT2's and AT's handle about the same now so everything is good

the 3b is a good engine.. not too quick but look after it and it will take you places.. im trying to save up for a turbo cos its a snail as soon as you hit a hill..

oh .. and let me know when you want some hosting on phat42.com! :P

also head over to 3rdrock4x4.com and check it out.. heaps of 40 owners there too..
