max lift in QLD
I have a 2006 lux and have a 2 inch lift but that is becoming a pain as the lockers want to go harder but the ground keeps stopping it. Can i now get a body lift and stay legal.
NOTHING LIKE A HARD DAY AT THE OFFICE AS THE HAND BREAK SAYS
allow you the room to fit bigger tyres to increase your ground clearance under the diffs, why?4x4Monkey wrote:whats a body liuft gonna do to improve your ground clearence problem

50mm suspension 50mm body lift and dick all tyre
no mater what you do you cant engineer bigger in qld ...........
but meh everyone does it
unless you perform an axel swap to diffs that had larger tyres from factory then have it engineered for those diffs and a larger tyre size
but in doing that you may be able to get 33's legally on a lux for an outlay of 10k or more

because the Automive and Mechanical Engineers that work for the Queensland Government, have said that 2" is the maximum safe.bruiser wrote:I work with a lot of engineers, civil and electrical. Now I don't no anything about car or mechanical engineering but I would think that they should be quilified to say if something is safe or not.

What difference does it make what state you are in

Is that a "nope" to D.O.T being OK with the lift systems?????Shadow wrote:nope.Dougster wrote:Have you thought about Pro Comp or Sky Jacker 4" lifts for IFS vehicles??
Apparently D.O.T. are OK with them, but you are still stuck with the IFS but better than nothing I guess.
91' Hilux Surf with the usual mods & a few different ones ....

Thats correct. D.O.T will only approve a suspension redesign, not a suspension modification. There may have been some that have slipped through the system, but that is really only because either the particular inspector was slack, or very very nice.Dougster wrote:Is that a "nope" to D.O.T being OK with the lift systems?????Shadow wrote:nope.Dougster wrote:Have you thought about Pro Comp or Sky Jacker 4" lifts for IFS vehicles??

Move your shockie mounts = defect
3" spring lift = defect
2.1" spring lift = defect
Swap from leafs to coil = redesign and with your own engineer can be approved. The D.O.T engineers still need to approve it though.
Dropping a suspension system down is not a suspension redesign, its a suspension modification.
I spoke to a number of engineers and no go to pro comp, skyjacker lifts as it exceeds the 1/3 bump stop and max 50mm suspension lifts. Is that a "nope" to D.O.T being OK with the lift systems?????
Thats not the case as DOT's sets limits to some mods which can't be exceeded by engineers safe or not. Many cars from interstate need mods removed before passing a road worthy.Surely if you have an engineers report from another state saying they approve of what you have done the queensland department does not have a leg to stand on.

They braught in a retrospective modification guidline. In this guidline they decided the maximum lift will be 2" spring.bruiser wrote:So all queensland engineers work for the governmentShadow wrote:because the Automive and Mechanical Engineers that work for the Queensland Government, have said that 2" is the maximum safe.bruiser wrote:I work with a lot of engineers, civil and electrical. These can be surcumvented by making a submision to D.O.T which will be reviewed by the D.O.T. engineers. Suspension lifts will not be approved, many people have tried, all denied.
Im sure there are engineers that could say that a ferarri having much better brakes and handling characteristics than a datsun 120Y should be allowed to do 150 in 100 zones, but its not going to be approved. Is the engineer wrong?
