Post by RockyF75 »

Got dialup? Go put a DVD on. :D

Pics taken from last weekend (19th) at Stockton. I left my roof at home and threw on the spare rear door that had previously been aquainted with the angle grinder  . Thankfully it didn't rain

Image - Camp Bodgey. Had a lenght of rope about 40m long... didn't want to cut it  . So about 1/2hr of true camping ingenuity and a fair bit of head scratching and my tarp was up

Image - View from 1st campsite

Image - Tried reversing up, made the passenger jump when it started sliding sideways

looks like you had fun. I used to have a rocky. complete with the gutless 3y. Now if I had hit the water like that no. 3 sparkplug recess would have filled up and caused a miss, making it even more gutless :(

Those bits of water are usually fairly fresh, they also become the bearer or quicksand for the lucky ones.

Trust me, it isn't fun, doesn't matter what tyres you have they all work the same in quicksand (i.e. they don't). You also won't see it until you're ground to a sudden halt and stuck up to your sills. Although mostly it's around the edges of those inland "lakes" (as the ones you were driving through) or ones that have dried enough to have no surface water and just looks like a wet patch of sand. Getting it out isn't to much of a problem it's all the sand getting into your brake drums, if you don't clean it out right away and continue to drive it will destroy your brakes.

What makes it worse is you can walk across it and the sand will feel fine and firm, but once the weight of a vehicle goes on it, all the underlying water comes to the surface and thats when you sink.

Can you tell i have been stuck in the shit twice

Great photo's.

Looks like you blokes had a heap of fun... :D Lucky buggers.
If only we had a "Stockton" here in south oz. The coorong's ok, but stockton has more open un-vegitated dunes (read... drive were you like).

Cheers.
If it doesn't have two sticks, I don't wana know about it!

Some people carry spare hoses and tools, some even carry spare CV's and uni-joints....us daihatu owners... we take spare drivelines

The whole reason for the trip was cause Kane "The Rocky" was nice enough to replace the bearings in my rear diff    . So we threw a borrowed one under mine, and carted my busted one up there.
