yes its a grenade blah blah blah... got 80 000 km on it ...2004 mod
auto doesnt appear to like the 305 70's much in terms of gearing on the soft stuff.

yes radiator has been pulled out and is spotless........

the big girl only had an issue when really working up the beach 2 wks ago.

anyone else had issues of this sort on sand or whatver else.

apart from when it was full of mud this is the only time it's done it and didnt show much on temp gauge but was boiling!

any suggestions (sell it and buy a 4.2 :finger: ) similar issues

SAND DRIVING WILL GET ALL MOTORS HOT, COS THERE WORKING SO HARD.
AS LONG AS IT DOSNT O/H ON ROAD DOSNT MATTER.
IF IT DOES BOTHER U, THROW A THERMO FAN IN THERE, THAT SHOULD KNOCK IT DOWN A BIT. ;)

If it boiled best to change the thermostat cause it does kill them, good idea to change it anyway just in-case it has become weak and is at least part of the cause of your problem.

I dont know your engine but with the revs up it might get hot but really it shouldn't get to boiling BUT if you were a gear too high and/or hard tyres then that can cause problems.

yes rubber was at 20lb and yes i was flogging the piss out of it but it should as a basically standard car be able to handle it in a 50k truck.... and its auto.

thermostat presures all tested and sweet.......

answer a being it's just a weak as piss setup that cant handle a good workout..

or there is something a miss......

just havent really heard about any heating up issues as such with the 3l just them blowing up :twisted:

of course sand makes them work no secrets there and i dont remember it heating up any other beach trip and it's winter...wait till summer :roll:

But your other beach trips where it hasnt heated up. Were you running the 305s??

got spotties and winch blocking flow to Rad??? Dont forget there are four radiators of one sort or another in there - one behind the other, I've had a similar thing happen once in 110,000 km on a hot day but never again.also sand driving can be relatively slow ( no air flow ) but hard work for motor.

Simple answer Mark considering it got hot during beach work while you were giving it a hard time. Your auto temps got so hot the trans oil going through the radiator trans cooler was boiling the radiator coolant.
I've know of some auto's reaching temps of 140 C plus this will boil your coolant quick smart.
Fit yourself a trans temperature gauge and drive accordingly, if it gets to 110 C slow down if it gets higher then stop.
Don't even think about the auto trans overheat light in the dash, by the time that comes on the damage is done. A few years ago when my light came on in my GQ I let it cool down and then the light never came back on and the auto lunched itself 10 days and $4000+ later.
A trans temp gauge is one of the best accessories you can fit to monitor how hard your vehicle is working. Having deleted the dicky radiator coolers and fitted front mount trans coolers I see top temps of 70 C now versus 100 C + previously and my normal running temps are 45-50C

was thinking similarly along these lines- air flow is pretty limited in these.

another 1 why would i see only a minor lift in temp on dash intrument not auto temp engine temp... liftd a small amount bot not to full where it was boiling previously. i just thought it was warming a bit until we could smell boiling coolant...

yes have 2 light force the smaller ones on the bar - no winch

previous trip was using 285's at full pressure which i pressume would drag more than the 305's at 20lb

on injected motors is overfuelling => an issue egg when labouring in sand and on the pedal! stupid question maybe but pressume it would and the prob with these autos is you seem to have to stab pedal to get it to change back in loaded situations
