oil/fuel in exhaust ?

Post by cookie monster »

changed the fuel filter on the weekend in the 2.8td. started it up with the rolller door down and a lot of oily soot went onto the door. got me wondering what the oil might be. unburnt fuel or engine oil ?
anybody any idea's?
motor uses about 0.5 to 1 ltr of oil over 7500km.
current oil 15w40 amsoil synthetic(since 60000km)
current km= 118000
injectors and pump never touched
serviced as per book except 15000km between oil changes with the synthetic oil(filter change at 7500km)
any comments welcome

I'd say it's plain old soot!
My Bounty does this without fail and leaves a mark on the concrete most mornings if it sits for a mitute before I drive off. It did it alot more when I have a dicky glow plug (or 3!) and misfired from cold.
Maybe with having the fuel filter off it gave a misfire and sent out unburnt fuel as soot?

Hi Cookie
Mine does the same it's just soot. Cold motor doesn't burn all the fuel.
My motor has done 285000klm and no oil lost between 5k oil changes and I use cheaper oil. I think cheaper oil with detergents cleans the motor better gets rid of the soot build up.
