Well my rig is getting its RWC today, just got a call from the mechanic, it has a 2" body lift vicroads want anything over 40mm enginered :( im trying to get hold of the PO as far as i know all the work was done by cheezy racing, rear bar, 1/4 chop and im assuimg they did the body lift aswell.
I need a letter or documentation the vehicle is safe and the kit was legal or something like this, can anyone shed some light on this for me?
what is the cost of an engineer?

all the barwork is to suit 2"lift. the mech is a great guy family firend he just doesnt want his ass on the line if something comes up. its because vic roads said 40mm is the max which confuses the crap outta me since i thought it was 50mm for vic

it is a 50mm lift, well vicroads is next to useless everytime i speak i get a differnt answer.
called an engineer 500 for the cert before he will even look at it.
if i cant have a 50mm body lift then all my barwork is useless as i cant use it since its all for a 50mm body lift, that and a 50mm sus lift.
argh this is turning into an expensive ordeal just to get a rwc

engineers can be $400-500 probably more with the new bullshit rules.
40mm knew there was a reason I went 40....
PS.. once you have tried to pass at one person, if he gives you paperwork, you have to have it cleared there, taking it elsewhere wont work.
I dont see why people say go elsewhere, whats wrong with being 100% legal?

I dont know why you would say that. I have done this a few times with various cars including my surf.

He is confused why its not legal in the eyes of vicroads, told me if worst comes to worst they can engineer it for 850 which is money i wanted to spend on muddies but if i have to do it well then i have to do it.

bogged can you or anyone recomend a workshop that will pass a rig with 2 + 2 lift. it isnt an unroadworthy car for god sakes

Yeah you cannot use the same paperwrk and go somewhere else to get it cleared, but you can start over again elsewhere from go to wo.
Pull it from your friend and take it elsewhere -easy, save the grief, why not?.
I have done this a few times when I have not agreed with a mechanic -worked every time.

well finally vicroads has someone semi competent.
the lift blocks are fine they want someone to inspect the brake/steering mods extended lines ect so if a mech is happy with the way the mod was done its legal.
geez it only took 4 hours for them to tell me
still not sure what this means for me, the mech is unsure about the failsafe built into the steering shaft because it has been lengthend.

Alot of mechanics are overly paranoid and go to extremes to knock something back. I had a look at the actual vicroads roadworthy requirements they are very fair and logical. The guys at Alex's Automotive in Eltham, have been great, specially Chris. he went out of his way to help me. He wasnt trying to be anal but was concerd about the saftey of the rig and mine in an accident and also the potential legal challenges, and the fact that vicroads cant tell anyone the smae bloody thing
