See the gap between the two rings .........the outer then gap of which you can see the thread of the bolts ..........then inner ring which is welded to the rim ......
The tyre is clamped between the two plates.....where you can see the thread ......stopping the tyre from a) slipping on the rim b) from losing its bead

you use so many bolts to keep the clamping pressure equal all the way round as this is the sealing edge of your tyre now instead of the bead
they can be balanced but sometimes it can take alot of weights
or your can use the containers of weights that you put inside the tyre

I had mine balanced (used a shyt load of weight) they drove great, but now that they are well worn and out of balance they are all over the shop, depends on what you are doing with them, remember that they aren't road legal.Jimbo wrote:I get it now.
Is that over kill will that many bolts?? Also can you balance these wheels?

I have 35x11.5/15 ET2's on 15x8 beadlocks. They haven't been balanced and apart from a small wobble at about 90k they are fine all the way to about 160k. Also mine are road legal and are listed on my LVV cert plate (NZ regulations).
93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)

Well there you go you learn something everyday.
I though the ring was just there to stop the tyre coming off by giving extra diameter; i didn't know it was actually bolting down the tyre edge.
