bj42 3b gearbox

Post by red rattler »

Hi all, i have got a bj42 lx , 1982, and it is making a horrible wineing noise whenever it is under acceleration and goes away when i back off the accelerator. i think that the old gearbox is well worn and getting a bit tired and i was wanting to know if i should get it reconditioned or if i should get a new one. it is the 4 speed box on the 3b diesel, and i was thinking that mabey i might upgrade to a 5 speed one? any advice / opinions would be much appreciated. thanks

I had the same problem and fixed it by fitting a 5 speed

thanks for that, i am thinking that a 5 speed would be the way to go. does anyone know where to find one and what sort of price they are?. I am assuming that you can only get reconditioned ones?
