Those tractor tyres I`ve got.

Ha Ha Ha some of this thread is comical. Ever used tractor tyres on a tractor? They are designed to grip, yes, grip and in most cases they will do less damage off road than BFGs. Trust me, I have compared them many times.
But like any tyre/car/driver combo, if driven stupidly, they'll do damage, just like Simex do and BFGs and tyres with chains etc etc.
Biggest problem is lack of clearance under the diff, as per usual, and when diffed out, they'll spin, and dig like crazy cause of the self cleaning tread design., Side slopes no probs at all...they are very good here, better than BFGs etc
The boys had them on the old farm 40 and took them off cause they were "boring" - there're still sitting in the shed....and more importantly they're useless on road and are as dangerous as hell on wet bitumnin!!!
Remember the old bar-tread design - similar idea and great off road.

Nice gq swb ute chop with a huffer for the good times
No probs Shakes, I get it from all quarters, so am used to it now . I just got to learn not to bite, & everyone is entitled to their opinion. Fact is all the tracks were new to us with our tripleader looking for some tracks where we could use low range, as most of the day was spent in high. If the track had of been dry, it would have been a walk in the park. It wasnt as though we said, "it's wet & muddy, lets go out for some fun', as this trip had been planned for months, originally to the snow up Lake Mountain way, but as no snow around, we thought we would try an area we hadnt been to.shakes wrote:I've personally seen cooper st's vs. JT2's on the same muddy hill, the jt's walked up, the coopers had to be spun quite hard to get up causing much more damage.... this was also on a private property!!
OT: Allen Mac, the majority of us know your point of view on "treading lightly" and it seems whenever you sprout your view (in most threads somewhat relevant) the thread starts heading to the point of being locked... not a personal dig, just observing.
mods please delete if I'm out of line
Unfortunately, a few of the crew got in some difficulty, but it happens sometimes, as most of us know. Fact is, now we know the track we wouldnt go back if it was wet.
Big Bundy, feel free to have your say, I'd love to hear your opinion, especially with your years & years of experience.
Bogged, sorry, but my opinion, right or wrong is unchanged. Many posts here along the lines of, "Its wet, lets go out have some fun" at Dissa/Toolangi etc. Yes, we have had a few trips planned, but when it has rained heavily just prior etc, we have cancelled, rather than go out causing potential damage to tracks.
Cheers
To clarify the hill in question that started this thread.
We came to a cross road that had a overgrown track on the other side.
I as the trip leader went and had a look and commented on how slippery it was, i drove it at a pace i felt comfortable and when the steepness increased i backed off and eventually stalled the Defender running simex ET's as it was gripping and slipping.
I threw my foot on the brake to hold it and it just slid back so i grabbed reverse and stall recovered it back down the hill and exited the 50 meters or so i had driven.
The next car was a Toyo 70 series with silverstones on it. He was in the same vote as me.
Jokingly we asked Danny if he wanted to send the tractor up. so he did.
Picture this.
Defender with Simex cant do it without pace 1st, Toyo with Silverstone same vote. So Danny hits it at a speed i would consider too fast for that track and narrow tree lines. He gets up with no problem but it does take a new line in some spots. On the way down he had no traction and it picked the rutts to exit the track with no mishap. I was egged on to have another go and normally i would as i'm a crowd pleaser and i will do anything for a laugh.
The Track Allan wa scomenting on was Turkey Spur Track and i was the trip leader and i did not slide down but infact could not make a RH turn as the track was off camber to the LH side and i stopped b4 the corner but could not turn as every time i wanted to drive to the RH side it wanted to go South......... At the end i drove into the culvert to stop further downhill progress and we hand winched me to the Right and i continued further down the track to the fallen tree where i did a 400 point turn and headed back up the hill with no real problems but i did have to work hard at it. I wont say there was no slip as there was. But the damage was controlled as little as it could in that situation. Lucky for me i had the Simex ET's on and not BFG muds that i normally run. If i had of had the BFG Muds then i would have been like the others who struggled to get out. 1 was winched 3 times. Mind you it was a Pajero and not a Beasty Land Rover.......
Allan has not done anything wrong, but what he said was too much.
I could tell you in detail some of the times i have Destroyed tracks, but i wont as the public does not need to hear that. I try my best to tread lightly but there is times when you see red and grow horns and you forget about everything else except the fact your rig sounds great at full noise and clumps of mud hitting you in the head from the oversized Simex's that are running on offset rims. Not that any of us have done that.
Lets forget that fact that the Tractor could have done damage. But lets point out the Tractor is better in slop and crap and Simex are better on rocky, mud, sand and other area's.
I have Video of the Tractor up the 1st mentioned hill if you want to see it.
My $4 worth (30c wont get you any info nowdays)

Hmm
There is a lesson to be learnt about posting info on how well your tyres went . Ok I admit I boasted a bit and probaly should`nt have but who has`nt pointed out the better bits of there vehicles. So in future the only way your gon`a know is by being there.Boy talk about opening a can of worms I will now take my proverbial bat and ball and go sulk in the corner .There is the old chest nut he who has not sinned shall cast the first stone. And I would say that most,if not nearly all here who would be scuffing there feet and putting there stones down.

Hybrid rover ute. Isuzu diesel. Custom suspension. Winch. Snorkel etc. etc.
don't forget 6 drunk mates with cans in their hands jumping up and down on the rear bar (trying in vain to be in time with each other )Beastmavster wrote:Agree.... most of the damage I see on tracks comes from the redneck crowd who buy cheap used (near bald) 35" AT's and wont stop at 3 or 4 attempts.
They think it's great to spin and seesaw the steering wheel when slower, saner driving with better tyres would be through first pass with less damage.
that one allways cracks me up
Peter.
Cable bracing is the way of the future!

Let it go Danny, its not worth it, even if your above comments were correct. Dont do what I do; someone throws the bait & I bite .Dyna Beast wrote:Hmm

As others have correctly stated, I can get a little 'hot under the collar' & forums like this are not really the place to throw abuse.
Anyway you did a great job on Saturday & looking forward to our next outing soon, (hope u got my email)
i dont see how blad ats can dig up the track.... think about it they sit on the serface and spin, the aggressive muds dig in and rip up the track, i saw dyna beast drive that hill and it was smooth before he drove up it then it was all broken up on the serface after, dont get me wrong aggressive tyres are great, iv had them and use them but they do dig up more then at's would.Beastmavster wrote:Agree.... most of the damage I see on tracks comes from the redneck crowd who buy cheap used (near bald) 35" AT's and wont stop at 3 or 4 attempts.

You are lucky, you're obviously travelling with people who have a clue... you wouldn't believe some of the crap people do in vehicles that aren't properly equipped. A bald AT can wear a huge hole in the ground where a good tyre would just grab the surface and then travel on to the next bit of surface. The bald AT has the advantage of being in one place for a loooong time, grinding away while the moron behind the wheel just keeps giving it more of the right foot.4runner2.8 wrote: i dont see how blad ats can dig up the track.... think about it they sit on the serface and spin, the aggressive muds dig in and rip up the track, i saw dyna beast drive that hill and it was smooth before he drove up it then it was all broken up on the serface after, dont get me wrong aggressive tyres are great, iv had them and use them but they do dig up more then at's would.
