Powdercoating
Can anyone give me a rough guestimate on how much it would cost to get some barwork powdercoated, would it need to be preped much first?
im looking at getting my red rear cheezy bar and sliders done in a black and then maybe the front arb style winch bar redone so it matches the other two.
Im in SE melb but will travel a bit for a decent job/decent price.
cheers
Tim

It's simple: questions are inherently good. Your questions... not so much

A speed camera would have prevented that!
Re: Powdercoating
There's a mob called Arvex in Oakleigh that did my sliders for about $60.00. That was prep and powdercoat. details below:wrksux wrote:Can anyone give me a rough guestimate on how much it would cost to get some barwork powdercoated, would it need to be preped much first?

You can try calling them.
Have you ever wondered how you get triangles from a cow? You need butter, milk & cheese and an equilateral chainsaw!
I got a good price from Blastworks in Campbellfield on four rims, the blasted and offered to powdercoat but I painted them. However, you could get them powdercoated as well if you wanted to!
I am not really a fan of powdercoating, I have seen a lot of powdercoated stuff where there is just a massive amount of surface rust concealed under the powdercoat after a few years, it seems to me that it "wraps" like glad wrap rather than sticking like paint ie it really only sticks to itself, not the metal. So once it gets a crack, in goes the moisture - between the powdercoat and the metal.
That's just my opinion. I also prefer being able to touch up my own paint easily.

This is not legal advice.
Its just I dont have the time nor skill to prep and paint all the barwork myself so its easier and probly would look better to pay someone else to do it.
im not so keen on the red barwork the PO had going

if it has been painted befor get it sand blasted not paint stripper. If it powder coated all ready they will just re spray it. As you are lookig at going black it wont be a problem to find a place it on the end of a run and it will be cheaper as the client of the run has paid for the powder. If it is a special colour ti will cost, minimum paint charge for any work in sydney is around the $200 mark. You will here people say they paid $50 odd dollars to get rims painted or something, these are ones that have had there job done in standard colours as they dont need to order powder. It doesnt take long to do, if it is painted in the mourning you can pic it up that arvo.
Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)
One color powder coat can be applied over another and the two wont blend.
I know this because we had a yellow item recently powder coated blue, we asked our coater and he informed us that the melt rates are different for old powder coating and new powder hence the item didn't come out green.
removing powder coating on the other hand is very difficult, it melts under sandblasting and just sticks and it melts under sanding etc.
still don't know how you remove it.
Cheers struth.
