Strange noise

Post by monkeyplex »

Hey dudes,

Took my vitara swimming in dirty water last weekend, and as you can imagine ye olde engine bay got a little filthy. When i got home my voltmeter was reading just over twelve when running. No prob, blasted the alternator with a high pressure hose with the engine running, back to 13.8 volts. Now i recently noticed what sounds like the plastic fan fouling on something when the engine is running, but if i listen closely it seems to be coming from somewhere near the alternator.

Any ideas?

Cheers fellas

Vitara alternators suck when it comes to mud/water. Went through 4 on my old Vit all after driving typical Victorian bog holes.

Might be worth pulling it apart and giving your alternator a clean inside. AC pumps also don't like mud. Neither do oil seals, wheel bearings, queenslanders etc etc
