Overfuelling 1.6L Vit EFI
Gday,
a friend of mine has recently converted his G16B (running a Weber) zook to TBI. There were several issues encountered when conducting the conversion, which were apparently solved. The current fuel pump is a Bosch VL commodore model, but was horribly overfuelling when we picked it up from the auto lekky's. My friend was told to fit a VL commodore fuel pressure regulator to reduce the overfuelling - so my mate went an bought/fitted a R31 skyline fuel pres. reg.
I had a drive of the car the other day, and i don't know how he can possibly drive it. As soon as you give the throttle a quick 'blip' the rev's die and sometimes stall. Is almost impossible to hold the throttle flat to the floor and attain high rpm without the car stalling.
As i first thought, the car is still overfuelling.
Does anyone have any ideas whats the problem, and how to eradicate it?

like mentioned earlier he is going to need the correct reg and the correct pressure goin to both, also are the return lines big enough and goin to the tank?, also read here lots of right info...

Zook TBI runs about the same pressure as a carby, a VL pump puts out too much, dont quote me on this, but I think a VL does 25psi and you need to be running about 8psi.

Yeah I didnt know the exact psi, but I know zook TBI runns a lot less.bazooked wrote:lj the vls run about 39 psi, and suit the multipoint .
Fourwheelin, was running a commo pump on his tbi on his buggy, and it wasnt happy, and the only way to make it run better was to put vice grips on the fuel line.
I think he has since got the right pump.
I think if you chucked a fuel reg on with the commo pump and tried to wind it down to 8psi, I dont think the pump would last long.

I've got a 1600 with TBI and a VL pump and it runs fine. The TBI unit has a fuel pressure regulator built in. The return line comes out of it.
I don't know where you get 8PSI from... The regulator sets it to a bit over 30 PSI if I remember corectly.
Have you got the return line hooked up properly?

Yep, unless there's 4 little injectors hiding in the centre of my throttle body its definately single point throtle body fuel injeciton.bazooked wrote:ben u sure its throttle body ie 1 injector and not multipoint?
Just had a look in the Hayes manual and it lists the fuel pressure spec as 24-30 PSI for TBI and 29-37 for MPFI when idling. The Suzuki FSM agrees with Haynes for MPFI.
Mine runs fine and uses about 10l/100km. You've got me curious, so I'll check the pressure sometime and report back.

Just a point made in an earlier post that may have been over looked . Have you replaced the return fuel line ? It is really small on a 413 as it was just a vent line . It does not matter what you set a reg to if the fuel can't return to the tank etc backing up the pressure .
I have read posts where people say it works and then most others that say it doesn't .
