The Ubervan

Post by CAD »

Some of you might not consider this a half decent 4x4 but i love her...and she does what i need well, this is just a little write up!

Im rebuilding my 84 L300 Express 4WD. It comes standard with a 1.8Ltr.
I have bought all the gear to throw in the Sigma 4G54 2.6ltr Engine.
Inlcluding extractors, engine mounts, sump etc.

The van body was riddled with rust, so ive cut the body away from the chassis and ive purchased a good 2WD body to use when im ready.

Im taking the exsisting 1.8ltr out as well as the old 4 spd manual and replacing it with the Astron 2.6ltr and a 5spd box. Ive sourced a TP Magna radiator, because its much larger (plus the radiator hoses will be longer, thus more water) and relocated it to the bullbar for extra room and im adding a 50mm lift kit to the body as i want to install the EFI setup from a TR Magna (Intake manifold, plenum, computers and loom, EFI head, distributor etc) and i want the body to clear the new engine.

Im hoping to post up some pics real soon, but at the moment it dosent look like much.

During the rebuild ive pulled the tank out, Now she has a bit of rust scale on it, so i was gunna get it sandblasted... what does everyone think of gettin it galvanised?

This weekend hopefully the new body will be ready to transplant onto the chassis.. gotta make up the lift kit (just a 50mm body lift only) to help clear the rather large wheels

I will keep ya's posted!!

sounds awesome CAD,

been driving past this one near me lately, its white with full camper package and its the 4wd ones, it looks immaculate. You would swear blind this thing has just rolled off the showroom floor its in that good condition,

i rekon theyre the best, most versatile campers ever, the idea of a 4wd, van, camper to me is awesome, the only things i can think that would come close is maybe one of those old imported toyota hiace 4wd camper vans, or one of the td transporter campers,

keep us up to date mate, and make with some piccies :D

dean ;)
